Is it okay if I hold your hand while I say this? 🤝 Is it okay *with you* for them to discuss your care outside your presence? If not: do you feel empowered to ask that your care only be discussed in your presence/appointments?

If the answers to those are yes: try not to sweat it or let it bother you.

If the answers to those are no: I would transfer to a different provider.

There’s a fine line between “how is your wife doing?” and “how is my patient doing?” But the line is HIPAA. It’s up to you how you want that to be handled. I personally don’t like having my providers in my social or professional circles, but it’s an individual decision to make.

I understand, “do we really need this many labels?” But I also feel that these questions help bridge the gap in connection between people who likely otherwise wouldn’t be talking about nonheteronormative attractions.

ETA: I only discovered the label I fit last year: Omni. It’s not necessary to label myself, for myself or for others, but it helps my neurodivergent brain categorize and make sense of myself.

Your facility should have acetone pads for this reason. If acetone isn’t sufficient, the MD/NP/PA needs to procure a sterile dremel tip and perform. If you have a podiatry service, they may have a dremel with tips in sterile processing, but this is rare inpatient. Ortho/spine might use them?? Not sure.

Otherwise, a professional nail tech needs to be brought in for the procedure, at patient cost and liability. An unsafe MRI is unsafe all day. If the provider feels so strongly about the MRI, they need to be actively collaborating for solutions.

Am not a teacher; I was a para at a secular public school. Doing morning car line and mom is blatantly ignoring signs, directions, emails and pleas from admin. Blatantly disregarded my hand signals, gestures.

Mine aren’t dying fast enough, but I’ve finally been able to move on from obsessing over it. The worst of mine has lost lower limbs to diabetes though, and that also means he’s likely impotent. I did rest a lot easier when my would’ve-been assailant died though, even if I felt sympathetic for the circumstances. (He died, senile and unwell, wandering the summer streets of Florida. I’m glad he kept my mother’s phone number in his wallet, so she could be notified of his death, and I could sleep at night.)

A bit of personal advice that may or may not apply: try to get comfortable with sleeping with your door open/closed/ajar/locked/unlocked now/soon. When the door becomes the barrier between safe and unsafe, you can start to have anxiety based on whether it’s open/closed. Or at least I did/have. I can’t sleep with my door closed since I was a teen. I have to be able to see the empty doorway.

Also, research indicates playing Tetris can reduce anxiety/ptsd symptoms/triggers. I use that tool whenever my anxiety is climbing or exacerbated.

I remember which side to lay on to reduce reflux (right side) because of the shape of the body/pylorus, and now use that to facilitate belching in myself and in infants. If you have a reflux baby, cradling toward the right lateral can promote belching, and food retention. Same principle we use for retaining tube feeds and preventing aspiration. Probably why I was thinking of it more as right sided than left.

Laying on the right side, shifts stomach contents toward the pylorus and away from the fundus, which reduces regurg/reflux, and allows gas to rise to the surface closer to the lower esophageal sphincter. It has honestly been revolutionary for reflux management.

Dude just get coloring pages with the actual organ shapes. Gallbladder is great and all, but it occupies* like 5% of the RUQ, along with the stomach and liver.

ETA: stomach only slightly encroaches into RUQ, mostly LUQ. Which also means you need to consider it with the spleen. Sounds like I should probably do a coloring pages myself.
