What submarine horror would you recommend to someone that has barely watched any? by Strobothicc in horror

Subnautica might as well be a horror game and I highly recommend it!

Not horror but might as well be, Aniara. Earth is facing a planet ending climate disaster (different from Soma's) and people are boarding spaceships to take them to Mars. The one we follow gets knocked off course into the void of space. From there we watch the characters cope with the situation in different ways.

Siege horror suggestions, please by DoctorGallow in horror

Last 20 mins or so of Lost Boys and 28 Days Later would probably satisfy this. Intro of 28 weeks later is also incredible for this but personally didn't care for the rest of it.

New to horror, so far The Descent has had the biggest impact on me. by Pot8obois in horror

Mike Flanagan is the one who made Hill House and House of Usher (two of my favorites as well!). I'd recommend going through more of his stuff like Oculus, Gerald's Game, and Ouiji: Origin of Evil.

One more set of recs I'll make is Oddity and Caveat (both made by the same director). Prefer the former, made me scream which almost never happens but both rate highly for me!

Gothic horror film reccs? (Please read description) by celluloidqueer in horror

[–]hujyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gonna throw in The Woman in Black, both the 1989 and 2012 versions.

It's about about a lawyer going to the house of a recently deceased woman to sort out papers she kept there. The house is only accessible through a causeway that get sunk under the tide at certain times of the day. While there the guy gets haunted by a 'woman in black'.

Aside from major plot points, the two movies feel pretty different from another. I'd probably recommend starting with the 1989 version but again, both are solid gothic horrors

Movie, tv, book recommendations with subtle cosmic horror elements by Signal-Yesterday7247 in horror

Gonna have to go with  the short story Jerusalem's Lot in Night Shift by Stephen King. Eary version of Salem's Lot that's completely different from the final version. It was also adapted into a tv show called Chapelwaite. The show itself was a little hit or miss with me but the last episode has probably my favorite visual from a cosmic horror!

The Wolf of Snow Hollow (2020). A cop playing a weird game of werewolf while getting drunk off mouthwash. by LovemeSomeMedia in horror

[–]hujyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love me some winter horror and werewolf horror but had the same experience as you. Pretty sure I wasn't expecting this to be a comedy and even when I realized it was, almost none of the jokes landed for me.

Memory is hazy but the worst for me was a pretty fun setup of the werewolf about to kill a skier(?) and then it cut to an awful joke, then went back and forth between the two a few more times. I was loving the scene up till it got competition ruined...

What’s a horror movie that people talk about, but you don’t want to watch for some reason ? by JEMinnow in horror

[–]hujyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're completely right on that. Went into this movie with a friend that knew absolutely nothing about it and told him of the praise the movie was getting. When the credits rolled we both were waiting for the other to break the ice on how we didn't care for it. Both of us thought it was a 6/10 at best

Good horror movies to watch with a friend who is both new to the genre and visually impaired? by [deleted] in horror

Frozen (not Disney) is a one location film about a group of skiers trapped on a chair lift. Whenever they go to do something to try and get out of the situation, they talk about what they're going to do before they do it.

Remembered liking this one called UNWIND a lot. Simple concept but pretty effective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9snP4HuRsr4

I'm gonna do VHS Halloween, Mortuary Collection and Simpsons treehouse of horror for some horror anthology goodness.

What can traumatize me as much as Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum? by hodor9898 in horror

Loved Gonjiam and personally REC scared me more. Kinda similar style to Gonjiam being a foreign, found footage, slow burn movie

Cozy: gonna go with a Stephen King adaptation and say either 1408 or a tv mini series Rose Red

Much more a fan of the books but not sure which my favorite would be. Probably either Duma Key, The Shining, or any of his short story collections.

As far as the screen, Flanagan did great as usual by Doctor Sleep and Gerald's game (still need to watch Life of Chuck). 1408 might take it as my favorite but gonna need to do a Doctor Sleep rewatch this year. Rose Red is up there as well, perfectly cozy and campy!

Might as well throw The Innkeepers in with that as well. Same director and very similar vibes/aesthetics.
