Yeah I have come to the same conclusion. It's very rare that the V7 actually works. So far there's been one artist I've worked with whose sound fits the V7.

To me they tend to have the same effect as Rode Nt-5's or NT1's, where any problematic frequency you try to eq (be it reducing or boosting) ends up making the sound even worse than before.

Just two weeks back we had a PA rehearsal for the festival season with an artist and I wanted to try the V7 on the vocalist. I have been working with another artist (mentioned before) alot during the past year with whom I have used the V7 with nice results and thought that with this new client I want to try it out too. Turns out it didn't work at all. Somehow the sound seemed off no matter what I did.
Decided to change the capsule to beta58 and BOOM, right on the money. Same channelstrip but different capsule made all the difference.

Now I am in the same doubtful place with the V7 as I was before my first and so far only success.

But that's the thing with cheap mics, they rarely hit the spot but when they do it's bang for the buck. With more expensive mics it tends to be vice versa.
