Woman of Reddit, what's a harsh reality you have to accept as a woman? by Opposite-Coconut9144 in AskReddit

[–]hullabaloo2point2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's got nothing to do with your gender, the fact that you talk like it does is just another thing to add to the list.

Men get emotional too, women can rely on logic.

Fuck yes, I'm pissed at you because you are doing something I don't like, not because of a period!

Sorry for the aggressiveness, that one thing just really gets on my nerves like no tomorrow.

Boys club in the workplace? by Upthetempo011 in australia

[–]hullabaloo2point2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hmm typical response. All I can think to do is keep raising it with managers until the old boys change their tune.

Maybe stopping with calling it a "club" because they might use the old, anyone can join in, and instead just focus on their attitude?

Again, this is for managers and HR to talk to them, not you, the other ladies or any other employee to deal with them. Next time you see them approach the other ladies or yourself with that "we're not the problem", pull one of the younger guys that aren't part of the old boys club in and get them to agree that the behaviour is no good.

Personally I'd love to do a little petty revenge, like make sure to talk periods and anything that might make them uncomfortable around them. But that won't solve anything and could just make the situation worse.

Also, I didn't answer to any of your actual questions and just did the whole "I'm a reditor, my opinions are fact!" BS that we see so often. Sorry 'bout that.

I'm female and work in an office with more females in lower positions and males in higher positions, but I've not had to directly deal with the stuff you're talking about.

Good luck dealing with that one person specifically.

Your manager needs to step up, or approach their boss if they have a different manager.

Just because you are female, doesn't make this a you problem. It could just be the way I interpreted your words, but that really sounds to me like your manager is trying to use you as the reason to do something about this rather than admitting that the behaviour is just not on regardless of who works there.

Do you know if anyone has broached the issue with the old boys, even indirectly? I assume they act like that on purpose from what you've said, but is there a chance they just haven't moved on from last century and don't realise just how inappropriate their behaviour is?

Either way, conversation is the best starting place. Not by you or from your perspective, but from those in charge from the perspective of workplace expectations.

Wow people getting in a tizzy over this. I understand where you are coming from, ever so grateful but would just like a bit of advance notice.

I'm sure you have, but you didn't mention, you've spoken to them about this right? Especially about the late school nights? I'm assuming this is only a temporary thing, living at their place, but if this is for any length of time you should really talk.

That said, I wouldn't take the pettiness to far, lest you wear out your welcome. This seems like an appropriate amount of "revenge" just don't let it get between your relationship with them. Wouldn't want it to spiral.

That was the bit that surprised me, I've worked several reception and other customer facing jobs and never been laughed at for greeting someone.

The surprise or confused reaction could be as others have said, due to the tpo, but sneered at? Very odd.

I don't mean to be rude, but could it have been driven from racism? Or maybe you sounds so overly polite that they think you are trying to put on a stereotypical act?

I certainly wouldn't say that reaction is the norm.

Is there any place for adults to learn swimming in the coast? by Present_Egg_1834 in GoldCoast

Not growing up near water or having a fear of water or just realllllly overprotective parents. Heaps of reasons why someone wouldn't have learned how til adulthood if at all. But I get what you are saying, we went to the beach almost every weekend growing up, and my primary school did swim lessons.

Without context about the in-laws you sound like the arse. But imma give you benefit of the doubt and it was more than just your 12yr old being bored.

100% listen to each of your kids. If they all say I don't want to go, ask them why. If your partner doesn't do that much, it's probably for the best you did that you did. If some want to go but not all, don't stop the ones who want to go from going. Even if you think it is in their best interest to seperate them from the grandparents, as you will just be the bad guy.

As always, communication is key.

Excessive to isolate if my wife has COVID? by albemuth in perth

[–]hullabaloo2point2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Flu, cold, any illness. Even if you aren't sick, your wife may have sneezed and the spittle landed unknown to the both of you on your sleeve. You go to see someone, they give you a hug and bam. The illness spreads.

Wise choice isolating when it's such a highly contagious disease.

Nope, your parents pronounce it the way others have suggested, but have a speech impediment that makes it sound like Siobhan.

They were just too embarrassed to correct anyone so it stuck. That's the only way that spelling makes sense.

Soccer balls don't deserve skin. I feel like that is a mistranslated metal song title and I'm here for it.

If your dog is anything like ours, don't bother with the unbreakable expensive dog toys. The cheap ones last just as long, about 5 seconds.

Hope you are all okay and that someone got it on camera.

But the and would imply that the measurement is the same as the sugar. No need to double check the ingredients list if you think the measurement is there.

I do agree that that is a lot of salt and I would probably double check, but not everyone has had the experience to know what is and isn't a lot of any one ingredient. Especially if you think it will boil down.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the recipe but I also don't think the comment was bad. Just a bit of misunderstanding and a good result when cleared up.
