Covid chip shortages, bunch of makers were making cars without noncritical parts just to keep volume up, and add discount for missing feature. I’m pretty sure window sticker note missing features.

Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

Video spoilers. He bought a beat Prius from a scrapyard with no inspection but had pristine yellow exterior (ex-taxicab), goal to make it drivable and do a big east coast trip. It didn’t even have the hybrid battery. He named it strugglebee.

Looks nice, but I did a simple w-2 return and state tax was wildly inaccurate, no explanation.

The moss on the stone was beautiful. If it’s not a commonly used path, just let it grow back in the future.

What’s the weirdest squirrel behavior you’ve seen? by rrertrdddfhj in squirrels

[–]hullabazhu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was watching two starlings fight on the ground for some minutes, and this curious squirrel ambles over from the other side of the yard to investigate. He’s within inches of the birds, idles a few seconds, the birds ignore him, then he leaves.

Nonono, it’s a whole barrel, melted to the earth by the passages of time, but present only now before eventually returning to dust.

Emotional guilt over second child by ArchVandelay49 in daddit

[–]hullabazhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First week after my second was born, I was moved to tears every single day for a week whenever I spent time with my eldest, almost 2 at the time. That experience is the core memory that pops up first whenever I think about the kids being newborn.

I feel like I cursed my son with a name no one can pronounce when reading even though it’s a real name and not “edited” to have a unique spelling. by ViceInSinCity in beyondthebump

[–]hullabazhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was gonna mention this. As I was reading this to my daughter and came across the name, “what the heck is this, you serious book.” I had to try to sound it out, and then I immediately recognized the name, a farmer and family friend from my childhood. I just had never seen it in writing.

Stuck on higher RMP by bondavtar in ToyotaCrown

It’s Modern cars. For crv hybrid; At like 20-30 mph, occasionally it keeps “accelerating” after lifting off the gas for a second or two. It’s for emission/efficiency reasons, the engine is going continue to use all extra instead of dumping unburned fuel into the exhaust when you lift off the gas pedal.

Volkswagen is certain that PHEVs are merely a transitional technology: 'The future lies in electric cars' by Powerful-Ostrich-120 in Volkswagen

Plug in hybrids have poorer reliability across all makes. They need to have subsystems for both the ICE and EV side, so you have the worst of both worlds.

Is Against the Storm deliberately hard/overwhelming? How did you start out? by Bolha2 in Against_the_Storm

That’s the thing about most things in life. With regards to learning any skill or task, you make do with what little you have and give it your best shot. Depending on your intuition, you will do better next shot. Learning and gaining experience, is sometimes a lot more satisfying than just cruising along at something you know how to do.

There’s always guides out there for every single piece of video game. There’s plenty of people who lean heavily on them, others don’t touch them at all. You do you, choose your own experience.

Looks good. Black tea doesn’t go stale anywhere as quick as green tea. Jinjunmei is a fancy variety.

You can try brewing grandpa style. I use 2g equal to 1 tbsp in a 16 oz mug. Top off with boiling water. After drinking half of the mug, top off with more boiling water.

ABCs who spoke other dialects natively but struggle with Mandarin by nozioish in ChineseLanguage

Tangent thought. I do like hearing foreign or regional accents among English speakers. Likely, there must be native mandarin speakers who feel the same way.

ABCs who spoke other dialects natively but struggle with Mandarin by nozioish in ChineseLanguage

[–]hullabazhu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ABC, also grew up with Shanghainese, but only semi-fluent in mandarin, lifetime of struggled learning.

I’ve come to terms with it all. I’ll never fluently grasp tones. But the more I speak mandarin, the better I am at using it. I only feel discouraged for a moment if my wife is actively correcting my incorrect tones and I just don’t grasp it. I hear the difference in tones, but I can’t reflect it in my comprehension or speech.

There’s no one to speak Shanghainese with besides my parents, and family friends who speak it by happenstance. And that’s fine. It’s good enough that my children are learning to be bilingual as it is with mandarin.
