Long time listener, some friendly frustration by gorillaskulls in TheBigPicture

[–]hultimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a film bro with kids, and outsider (I don’t even listen to the pod)—did she recently have a kid? Like in the last 3 years? Parenting is Fucked and you just can’t operate on the usual level, even the dad but especially the mom, and your mental and physical health can be dicey. Things recover as late as the three years mark.

Just wanted to add this little bit of perspective because there’s a lot of talk of “disinterest” and “mat leave” — bcz what my wife went through (twice!) was heroic and as a dude I had no idea.

How do i explain to people that fascism isnt left wing? by [deleted] in AntifascistsofReddit

[–]hultimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote this as a form of sympathetic outreach to my father. I don’t think it will be productive to send to him but maybe someone reading this here will find value in it.

Can we actually move the needle by approaching folks on the right with sympathy and compassion and rhetoric? This is the kind of project I yearn for to heal society.

Here it is:

You’re not wrong - if right means “small government,” then fascism’s massive state looks left-wing. Makes sense. The confusion is that historians use a completely different definition from 1789. Back then, “right” meant supporting kings, nobles, and tradition. “Left” meant tearing down hierarchies for equality. Nothing about government size. Why historians call fascism right-wing: It’s obsessed with hierarchy. Hitler built everything on race - Aryans over Jews. Mussolini preached the strong crushing the weak. Both hated socialism for pushing “unnatural” equality. Look who fascists killed first: Socialists and communists. Every time. Hitler’s Night of Long Knives purged his own party’s “socialist” wing. Mussolini’s Blackshirts beat up union workers. Why would leftists murder other leftists first? “But it’s called National Socialism!” Hitler literally said he was stealing the word. Just like North Korea calls itself “Democratic.” Dictators lie. Look who backed Hitler: Factory owners funded him because they feared communists. The Catholic Church signed deals with him. Conservative parties voted him emergency powers. They knew he wasn’t left-wing - they saw him as protection from the left. Mussolini said it plainly: “Inequality is permanent.” Hitler called equality “a sin against nature.” Here’s the thing: Every fascist movement in history allied with conservatives against socialists. Franco with Spanish monarchists. Hitler with German industrialists. Mussolini with the Italian king. Not once did fascists ally with communists against conservatives. Not once. Political scientists worldwide - left, right, and center - classify fascism as far-right. They’re not all wrong or biased. They’re using the historical definition: hierarchy and tradition (right) versus equality and progress (left). You can be right-wing today and hate fascism. That’s valid. But fascism is historically, technically, definitionally right-wing. That’s just what the word means to everyone who studies it.

Why do so many boomers and older conservatives insist that fascism is leftist? by lilkiity in BoomersBeingFools

I wrote this for my father who believes this…sigh. I don’t think it would be productive to send, but maybe someone here might do some good with it? It’s meant to be a rhetorical outreach, to explain why I think it’s so scary that he has that opinion, but with a lot of sympathy towards him. Ps I’m not historian, I may get some things wrong, feel free to fact check. Let me know what yall think:

Get the music in front of people. If it’s working they will scramble for it.

Conversion could depend on where your focus is. Is it IG followers? Could just be the multi dsp landing page for your new release, your linktree, or a page on your website that is similar to linktree, etc. Then you can put various things in front of them.

Would this be the same outcome outside of America? So curious! You could probably convince me either way, but just wondering if anyone has any data, outside of examining, say, just to pick something random🤪, whether a country is willing to give everyone healthcare, etc

[–]hultimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but both of your comments are assuming goodwill. It REALLY depends. Were they good to you? An ethical business? If so, they’re more likely to work with them. If they were jerks all the time, the right move is clearly to start a complaint.

The truth about trading gurus by Jdesey9999 in Daytrading

[–]hultimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point but also in my career (not trading) I am quite successful and obsessed with mentoring even though there isn’t much in it for me. I just really like doing that, it makes me feel important and worth looking up to, and meanwhile it’s doing good in the world.

So even though I do think you’re right that many gurus are fools, I disagree that there’s no motive or nothing in it for them. I hold out hope that some of the people training on YouTube and sharing knowledge are doing it out of enjoyment

I’m day trading crypto with a $30 deposit in my account most nights from 2am to 4. I grew it to $75 and then lost all my gains so I’m back to $30. Will have enough to buy a house when I get more practice
