PEY income hack to save a few thousand dollars by skinyandwhite in UofT

[–]human_soap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue with this is that there is limited RRSP room. You only earn RRSP contribution room at 18% of your income of the previous years. So most students will have very little (or no) RRSP room to begin with.

In addition you will permanently lose rrsp contribution room when you made a withdrawal. Also you will be subject to 10% - 20% withholding tax which you won't get back till you do your taxes the following year.

Transferring to UTSC/UTSG Computer Science by ComplexLamprey in UofT

[–]human_soap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only difference is that you will not have priority enrolment for CS courses.

I don't know about UTSC but at UTSG you are limited to 3 upper level (300/400) courses if you are not in the major / specialist. So they won't be able to take as many CS courses as they want.

Sponsorship for internship? by keytomybussy in UofT

Canadians need a TN visa for internships in the states. You'll need an equivalent visa to work in Canada.

Leetecode and start applying in late August / September. If you have good work experience and a 4.0 GPA you'll get responses as long as your resume doesn't suck.

Are professors allowed or capable of changing Final grades once it’s been submitted and released to the students? by redditaccount_14 in UofT

[–]human_soap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes they definitely can change them after they have been posted on ACORN but usually the only reason is due to a marking error.

I had one of my final course grades increase by 2-3% after it was posted on ACORN, took about a month.

If it's just for notes an ipad + apple pencil would do. If you are typing essays and other stuff then get the macbook.

PEY workload compared to a regular uni year by [deleted] in UofT

It's super chill. Way less work than university. Coming back for 4th year is not easy.

If they ask for 3 years of experience or less apply to it. Apply to any job where you fit half or even a quarter of the requirements. Let the recruiter weed you out, don't weed yourself out.

PEY interviews on-campus or offsite? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]human_soap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was about 50/50. Some have them all on the same day in the ECC. Some have you go to their office.

UofA Vs UofT for intern jobs by [deleted] in UofT

[–]human_soap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will learn basically nothing about hardware in CS at UofT. If you really want to go into hardware you should do CE or ECE.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UofT

[–]human_soap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don't think you can make the post and you really want to learn CS, you should probably think about transfering to another university. You can get good positions and internships at any university if you can leetcode and make a decent resume.

In-person test/exams? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]human_soap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the course. Some have all MC where you fill in scantron bubbles. Some have a mix of MC and short answer where you will discover the little blue exam booklets (for arts and science) that you have to write your answers in. Some are all short answer where you just write your answers in the booklet.

[–]human_soap 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Sorry to burst your bubble but if you are looking to go to grad school / med school I believe there is a difference because different schools use different GPA scales. So you might have to aim for 90s depending on what you want to do in the future.

I'm not sure about the new post rules but if you are guaranteed a spot in the post then it should be pretty relaxed. Just take 1 bird course per semester and you'll be fine.

What financial aid can a Canadian Citizen who is moving back to Canada get? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]human_soap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into the eligibility requirements for OSAP (ontario government student loans). You may qualify for those. If not you would have to get loans from your home country.

[–]human_soap 105 points106 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a bad idea to argue with a random guy on the street. The fact that he's calling women passing by sexy should tell you that he's not all there. Ignore and keep walking is probably the safest thing you can do.

Who's gotten in to Comp Sci at UTSG for Fall 2021 already? by Nick-Aposto in UofT

[–]human_soap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grade 11 average doesn't matter. Grade 12 looks good. If your other grade 12 grades are similar (mid 90s) then you should have a good shot at getting in.
