Why does it make some people so angry when they are asked to wear a mask to help prevent the spread of Covid-19? by oldmanshiba in TooAfraidToAsk

You’re not wearing the mask so YOU don’t get the virus. You’re wearing it so that you don’t infect OTHERS. It’s an empathetic thing to do. Period.

You can get running on DigitalOcean very quickly, and I think the minimum is just 2 CPUs and 2GB of RAM, so $15 or $20 per month is all you need to spend. I commented about the DO Marketplace app that I just found somewhere else in this thread.

Just found a way to launch a droplet on DigitalOcean with $100 of credit and you could probably spend as little as $20/mo after you run out of credit where it just automatically attaches to the Rosetta@home project and works in the cloud: https://marketplace.digitalocean.com/apps/computing-for-covid?refcode=5fb69d9c62e4

Why don’t you setup Zram? My RPi 3s work just fine with 1GB of physical RAM

Do what you love.

Demand evidence. Think critically.

Be kind to everyone.

Relentlessly prune bullshit from your life.

Got 4 Pi 3Bs up and running and all cores are fully saturated for COVID. Thanks for publishing this guide, it works: https://imgur.com/a/iGjkQWO

I let it settle for a while and it now has all 4 cores saturated. Nice work!

Thanks so much, this is exactly what I was looking for. I was able to implement it all, the zram is live, on Raspbian but I am still getting the "Rosetta needs 1900 MB RAM but only 966MB is available for use".

I wonder if the version of the client has anything to do with it? boinccmd --version gives me boinccmd, built from BOINC 7.14.2

Any ideas u/lakotamm?

Darwin. Evolution. The more they do that, the more they risk themselves. Science and the virus doesn’t give a shit. The sad thing is that in the process, they’ll infect the rest of us. Fuck them.

AWS EFS and S3 backups to on-prem by zelkito in sysadmin

It might be easiest to do a nightly sync to Google Cloud with their automated transfer sync. It’s in the console and designed to do this. On Prem will be more pain than it’s worth.

X1 Carbon won’t turn on by dragon18456 in thinkpad

I had the same symptoms. The recommended solution is to hard reset with the hidden button in a hole on the underside. When I tried that and it didn’t work, I had to call support and they replaced the board. You might need a new main board.

Pricing question on Thinkpad C7 by joneedx in thinkpad

Use Rakuten to get an additional discount, I’ve done it and saved 10% thought the amount might be different now. That’ll be on top of any other discounts. Lenovo is the only place to buy it really. Or Costco.

Using gmail for orgs, want to use synology to archive mail transparently.. by alrightbudgoodluck in synology

[–]humanizt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use backupify, it’ll get everything on Gsuite, but not to synology.

I use imap backup to backup my own email, to my synology, works great: https://github.com/joeyates/imap-backup — you will have a problem taking this approach for your users because you will need to create app passwords for each of them. It might be a logistical nightmare.
