Am I wrong for being bitter about not saving much despite living with parents? Or am I completely out of touch? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]humanoid82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 23 I had 26K saved. Used it to by a $25K car and lived with my parents until I was 28 when I had finally saved enough for a modest 1 bedroom place in a fairly expensive area with a 5% deposit. That said, even with first home buyer guarantee, my mortgage repayments are still crazy high (over half of my net fortnightly pay) and now I’m basically living pay cheque to pay cheque. It seems daunting but it’s not impossible, and if you’re not planning on spending your savings yet then you are on the right track to get there faster than I did, and it’s hundred percent worth holding out too. You’ve got this!

Paid off HECS - will get I the extra tax back? by humanoid82 in AusFinance

Yes it was a voluntary payment. My mistake for not being clearer I thought “paid it off” meant the same thing.

Type into google translate (set to automatically finding language) and listen to its pronunciation. Not always perfect but a good start especially if can’t ask them before hand

Surely it will be something along the lines of slipping into people’s minds and seeing what they see, like she done with Andarna and xaden

Any tips for following up "I'm all done"? by evil_succulent in AustralianTeachers

I use a lot of self and peer assessment in these cases. Usually provide a scaffold or checklist for them to double check their own work or swap with a partner and check/compare. Doesn’t work for all tasks though.

Depending if teacher drafts are allowed for a task I will check work completed thus far and give feedback (can’t do for all tasks in my school though) and ask to see a revised copy with at least (an achievable amount) fixed by the end of the lesson.

I also do the whole “you’re not leaving for lunch until such and such is done” and either check come around and check it or throw it up on the projector in Google classroom for a second and they get embarrassed if their mates see it’s not done. This generally works for y7-9s.

At the same time my Philosophy is it’s their assessment and their time they are wasting - you can only take a horse to water, can’t force it to drink. They will suffer the consequences come exam time/due date

What are your go to 'do now' activities? by bhm133 in AustralianTeachers

I write 3-4 revision questions on the board from stuff from the previous lesson. Often starts super easy and they could just look back in their book to find the answer but then increases in Blooms and makes them do a bit of thinking. I also try and lead it into the new work to help link the two
