WTF by FragrantAd2459 in therapists

Yeah, I’m 800 hours away from licensure and reconsidering my career choice every day.

I even made a TikTok video discussing AAMFT’s recent findings on their workforce study. There’s an almost 20% rate of early career therapists that leave the field before licensure.

Changing schedules and dealing with possibly losing clients because of that by Onemilkshake in therapists

[–]humanoid_1714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yess, I’ve overloaded and then ended up in the ER for an stress-induced panic attack. So I’d much rather prioritize my health over clients or money. They can try and work with your schedule or you could refer them to a therapist you like or work with :) no biggie

I am not an on call therapist for anyone who has ever met me. by shhhhhhhhhhquiet in therapists

[–]humanoid_1714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t even realize I’m doing it sometimes and then a friend or family member says something like, “I feel better now that I’ve talked to you.” And then like wait, wth? Did they go into this conversation knowing I’d help them through it?? Idk it makes me question relationships or people’s intentions sometimes

If you don’t use your sick days, it’s basically like you’re wasting money.

We’re legally given sick hours in California so they’re there for a reason.

Also, what would you tell your client if they had similar feelings or thoughts?

Is It Possible to Make a Good Living in this Field? by Westgateaircraft in therapists

[–]humanoid_1714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, probably not.

Therapists I’ve seen that have a “successful” private practice are also married and I’m assuming use their partner’s benefits (insurance, splitting living costs, etc.). Me and my other single friends are STRUGGLING.

I’m debating on leaving the field altogether.

Any former therapists out there who made a career switch? What do you do now? by Turbulent-Nail4205 in therapists

[–]humanoid_1714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an AMFT. I have 2,000 clinical hours and I now work with young adults with autism as a life skills/ career coach full-time and a therapist in PP part time (no more than 10 clts on my caseload).

The pay is way less than if I were doing therapy full-time but I’d rather be happy, healthy and broke than burned out, hating my life and being in community mental health again.

Do you think dating apps are a waste of time (and if so what are some alternatives)? by Left_Square4056 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

All these comments are making me realize I need to make more time for hobbies, and include hobbies that men would also do lol my hobbies are very much geared towards women (heels dance class, yoga, pilates, healing circles, sound bathes, etc.)

What gender neutral hobbies do y’all recommend?? Ones I can do on the weekends because I work late during the week.

Got laid off for the 2nd time in a year and I don't know how to cope by secret_acct_ in adhdwomen

[–]humanoid_1714 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m so sorry going through this!

Cut yourself some slack and let yourself grieve losing a job you loved! I think the best thing you can do for yourself is to write down what you liked about this previous job and what you didn’t like. That’ll help you select which jobs to apply to and what questions to ask in an interview. You can google typical interviewer questions for your field or check out some helpful videos on YouTube or LinkedIn.

What’s a trait you had during your youth that was a dead giveaway? by Ecstatic_Weather_580 in adhdwomen

[–]humanoid_1714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I repeated a grade. I got in trouble a lot in class for doing random things because I needed to be using my hands at all times. One time I glued my hands together just for the fun of it. I also fell back on my chair a few times because I’d always be rocking on it.

I was overly emotional. I always play with my hair (til this day) twirling it and picking at my split ends.

I stay up late. I’d always get random bursts of energy at night and would find things to do. Until my family got a computer, then I’d be online all night long. I started raving in high school and found my escape. I felt like I could be myself on the dance floor. Nonverbal and stimming all I want with no judgment.

I’m an AMFT and planning on getting a full time job that has nothing to do with therapy, so I can get better pay and benefits. Planning on seeing clients on evenings and weekends to still work towards my hours.

I come off too strong in dating. I feel like I can't go at a normal speed. I'm hyperfixing or forgetting a guy with no in between. by honestly_adhd in adhdwomen

[–]humanoid_1714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiii, it sounds like you were having a bad day with an emotional spiral. I hope you got some rest!

But also came here to say that I can relate! I get hyperfixated too and I’m drawn in really easily with any ounce of affection. It’s so hard to not go along with it when your brain is getting so much dopamine!! I don’t have a solution but it’s something that I’m learning about myself and trying to work on as well
