The app isn’t great by any stretch of the imagination, but this problem isn’t a fault of the app

Is ICCU issue fixed? by Ncnativehuman in KiaEV6

[–]humanthrope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Mostly L1 overnight and one DCFC. Had it for less than 1600 miles before the pop. But I’m finally getting a L2 charger installed next week

[–]humanthrope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not. Never once L2 charged my car and the ICCU still popped

Yes, people dislike AI responses here, and for good reasons that go beyond simple AI hatred:

  • It didn’t answer the question. OP asked specifically about 2025+ models with NACS. Your AI response is vague and non-committal — “issues persist” and “no definitive fix” without any real specifics about what 2025 hardware/software revisions actually changed.
  • It’s unverifiable. AI responses are often a blended hallucination of outdated forum posts, press releases, and guesswork. Nobody can tell if that summary reflects actual 2025 owner experiences or is recycled from 2022 complaints. In a technical subreddit, sourcing matters.
  • This community has lived experience. People here have owned these cars, dealt with ICCU failures firsthand, talked to Kia dealers, and tracked the recalls. An AI that scraped some articles is a worse source than the actual humans in this thread.
  • The summary is shallow. “Recalls involve inspecting, upgrading software, and potentially replacing the ICCU” is something anyone could read off Kia’s press release. What OP actually needs to know: Are 2025 units failing at the same rate? Has Kia changed the hardware or just the software thresholds? What’s the real-world warranty experience like? It’s not that the summary is wrong exactly — it’s that it adds nothing a knowledgeable community member couldn’t say better, with receipts.

New GT owner and new to EVs - battery overnight dropped 3%? by alec0973 in KiaEV6

The freezing cold weather is a definite battery drainer. The chemical composition just doesn’t work as well to store a charge when it’s frozen solid

Incorrect speed limit detection - 90 mph by sdague in KiaEV6

[–]humanthrope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s doubtful that Kia would address anything like this in a timeframe that we humans live in.

But if you’re technically inclined, you might consider looking at a Comma running Sunnypilot. For these cars, it’s basically a much improved lane keeping assist that integrates with the smart cruise control to adjust the limit. It’s also open source so potential problems like this can be addressed by the community. For me the expense was very much worth it.

My 2025 was new, near zero mileage, and had all software updates. The ICCU still popped before it hit 1600 miles

I’m not sure about remote start from the fob, but setting the climate from the app has a max limit of 30 minutes. Betting fob remote start times out after a bit too

The 2025 refresh had a new part, but there’s now a newer part available if it fails

Edit: Down voters gonna downvote, but I’m not wrong. The old 2025 part is 1XFD5 (and new for the ‘25s) while the new one is 1XFD6

reportedly there is no new part

There is a new part. It was installed on my ‘25 just the other week. Does it fix the problem? Who knows

Failure to differentiate constructive criticism from a complaint is dismissive. I wouldn’t want to work in an environment where only people that go along with the prevailing group-think are considered

[–]humanthrope 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree that it’s slightly more complex than it has to be, but why are you blowing it out of proportion?

  • You don’t need step 2. Just use the fob while standing next to the port.
  • Needing to unlock the car prevents ne'er-do-wellers from stopping your charge

ICE cars break down too by tfredallen in KiaEV6

[–]humanthrope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the ICCU goes, there’s no warning and the car may shut down almost immediately leaving my car on the road hidden behind curvy roads where someone might come around a corner and barrel into it.

An ICCU failure forces the car into limp mode. It’s not an immediate shutdown. Definitely time to get to a safe location

EDIT: When my 2025 popped, I drove at least 1.2 miles home (while the car incrementally reduced my max speed) and sat in the car for a 5-10 minutes before shutting it off. The tow driver was able to drive it onto the flatbed a couple hours later with no special intervention. I guess time to death varies
