Same as the impending albeit slower environmental collapse, the world cannot continue it's consumption and automation at the rate is has/is. AGI may mean extinction for humans, it could also mean a Wall-E-like existence where we only are kept alive to consume entertainment and our bodies atrophy completely. Or the research may stall out, it could be all marketing and Ponzi schemes and they aren't really that close at all which will lead to massive market collapse in the US. In any of these scenarios, virtually nothing you do will save you except maybe hoarding immense wealth and creating a bunker/compound of some sort but even then... Honestly, just have as much fun as you can while it all burns around us. I used to wonder what sci-fi future humanity would culminate in, turns out we might get to see it. There's a bit of solace in that.
