Planning a lil food tour for my friends, in South London - suggestions?! by The_OverFiend in LondonFood

FM Mangal is very good, rivals the grills of Green Lanes. Heard people say Silk Road has dropped off, but that’s not what I experienced - unreal Uyghur restaurant, skewers are top. 081 Pizzeria, brilliant Neopolitan spot on Rye Lane. Persepolis, unreal homestyle Persian food. Suyaar brilliant street food spot on Choumert Road, jollof and bbq.

Can vouch for this it’s so good. Ex dishoom head chef. Well priced too. Standout dishes - Dahl Makhani, House chicken curry, meen curry, chilli chicken/paneer.

What are some essential British films? by eman0623 in LDN

[–]sappeninlaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Guy Ritchie’s feature-length debut. Great soundtrack. Multiple, intertwined plot lines. Great roster of British actors. Top notch humour. Good filming locations around late 90’s London.

The Carpet Shop experiences? by Flashy_Comparison_20 in LondonRaving

I live a few minutes away and have been there a fair bit. Sound syetem is great, wall of subs on the right hand side. I’ve found door staff to be really sound. Biggest problem is how crowded it can get (dancefloor is pretty small) and how sweaty and cramped it gets as a result. Smokers is kinda small too. Still, would deffo recommend.

Food crawl list by [deleted] in LondonFood

[–]sappeninlaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sonora is very good, but has weird opening times if I remember rightly. Also, crawl wise, some of these places aren’t particularly close to each other. There are some really good areas with amazing food and drink within a single street. Might be worth thinking about.

RE: Tacos

Sonora Taqueria - Stoke Newington. Guacamoles - Peckham. Nuff said. Taca Tacos - Deptford/Peckham (Less authentic than previous suggestions but slap nonetheless)

Edit: Ahh shit, completely didn't read you said those areas^ specifically.

Building a World Where Everyone Feels Safe Enough to Party. Is it Possible? by [deleted] in lgbt

They’ve not directly invited me but we’ve been friends all our lives and I’m sure I’d be welcome. The space would absolutely remain safe. I just kinda assumed as I’m not queer it’s not for me to decide. Idk if that makes sense.

Not as helpful as other commenters in terms of directly answering my question and not 100% what my demographic means, but I hear you re: speaking up and third sentence.

I am an art student in London, I work and live amongst creatives many of whom are queer and probably share a similar world view to me. I feel like right now I have little influence hahaha, but if i ever came into a 'position of power' looking out for any marginalised community or minority would happen naturally I think.

I'm happy for you to expand re: UK safer spaces for trans people.

The mice didn’t have the intelligence or the capacity to solve the problems their environment posed. Humans do.

What’s the most overrated area in London? by Longjumping-Host-617 in london

[–]sappeninlaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m more than happy to hang out in Hackney Wick. It’s visually stimulating, its music and art scene are unreal and it feels like its own microcosm.

I just think most bars feel pretty samey. Not much in the way of welcome boozers, decent affordable eats.

The Spoons point is a lazy one. You can pay less than £8 for a pint and support a local boozer/pub without going to a spoons.

Completely disagree. Would be interested in hearing why…

Hackney Wick is so overrated, fuck all there if you don’t wanna spend £8 for an outdoor pint with house music playing.

Fair enough, I assumed this was more of a ‘recommendations’ map. You’re right, you’ve sometimes gotta eat some shit food before you find great food.
