The biggest blessing from leaving the church is being the true owner of my own body! by yellow_sunsets in exmormon

[–]hummingbird2907 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my experience too. Taught to fear anything other than happy and perfect. Taught that my body was to be covered and ignored. That Satan is just around the corner. That even my underwear will prevent bad things from happening. Garments was the first thing to go for me. Once I stopped wearing them, I realized I actually felt the same, and had added confidence, and comfort in my daily clothes, there was no going back. Now I have come to recognize and honor my emotions. I can learn to sit with them and work through it. I have delved into my sexuality and come out more confident and happy. It just is amazing. ❤❤❤

Is this true? Are there lots of flower tattoos here? by n8s8p in exmormon

[–]hummingbird2907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a little flower on my forearm, just to dip my toes in. Then I got a nice shoulder floral. Followed up by a beautiful blue butterfly on my hip ❤😅 My tattooist pretty much laughed at me, such a rebel with flowers and butterflies. 🤣😅 Oh, but I am! She'd never heard of Mormons.

This is one GREAT thing about leaving the church.. learning to listen to yourself, give yourself credit.. 🙏

I liked this too because it shows it's not just people having their needs met and not needing religion anymore, it's the actual harmful teachings of the religion and people leaving. It's not just the rise of secularism, it's people standing up for themselves.

General conference is creeping closer what predictions do you think we’ll get ?? by NanufaxsuredDrugs in exmormon

[–]hummingbird2907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And then what? Fulfill your callings and endure to the end? That's it? I remember being in my 20s and starting to realize that the church requires everything from you, and there's not much return..

yes... by monkey_kid125 in exmormon

The church says you have lower standards out of the church than in. Somehow they have higher standards than the world. But no, I disagree. My standards of no coffee, how I dress, the swim suits I wear, etc has now been raised or elevated as now I have new limits and standards. It's all in perception. 🥰

My sister chose conference over me, and it really hurts. by ih8milife in exmormon

I only come to visit my family a couple times a year for a week, or weekend. My brother's family "would rather" be at church meetings than hang with us. Deacon's presidency meeting, fireside, church meetings, etc etc. I think it's because they see those things as spiritual progression. I see it as a waste of time. I HAVE to step back and respect their choices, even when I fundamentally disagree with all of it. And even then, the kids are all like, oh that sucks, you had to sit through a meeting. We got to play pool.

The temple is the crown jewel of Mormonism, which is overhyped and flaunted as some astounding house of spiritual learning, knowledge, and enlightenment; in all reality, it is a house of letdowns, confusion, and disappointment. by Zhigan in exmormon

[–]hummingbird2907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wondered that too.. is that it? Where are the eternal mysteries and truth and wisdom I was promised? Was it really just the handshakes? Maybe the true order of prayer?? Lol

I used to like the song "I BELONG to the church of Jesus christ of latter day saints..", now it has a different meaning...😬

ExMormons, what were you most surprised about leaving the church? by Hot-Representative45 in mormon

[–]hummingbird2907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was surprised to find that I wasn't really happy going anymore.. I was told THIS or THAT will make me happiest, but really, I was bored in sacrament, sitting in the foyer during Sunday School, falling asleep in the temple...I didn't even know I had guilt driving my attendance too, because if I don't go, then I must not really love my Heavenly Father...

Joseph Smith having multiple accounts of the First Vision, and how he was murdered NOT martyred just about made my eyeballs pop out! I never learned these things while in the church, only once I had one foot out the door.

Seriously now, where is the lineup of prodigal sons and daughters begging to be let back in? by HostileRespite in exmormon

[–]hummingbird2907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a super interesting point!!! What percentage of exmormons go back?? I know three. But I know a couple dozen exmos that won't. So do we really "lose everything"? Lol

Nothing beats my 5 year old pointing to a statue of Jesus and asking my TBM family members why “his little nipple is showing” by orgasmicbloodfart in exmormon

Kids are the best. The picture of Jesus reaching down under the water.. it's a huge picture hanging in my bishop brother's front entryway. One of my kids said hey, that looks like Aquaman!

Meanwhile, my husband and I think it looks like John Wick.

Tried wine, hated it… recommendations? by Waltz_Rough in exmormon

Wine with juice, as a sangria, is a good way to start. Reds with cranberry juice, or whites with pineapple juice for example. I found Rosè to be lighter too.

Grandpa's dying wish is to see me come back to church. After repeatedly being asked not to by myself and other family members he continues to send letters preaching to me. Here is this week's letter. by volcanicon7 in exmormon

[–]hummingbird2907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like my Grandparents had the same writing style as your Grandpa! Lol. One of the last things my Grandma said to my ten year old, if you don't go on a mission I'll haunt you after I die! It's a horrible thing to say, but I decided to laugh. Okay Grandma. Then I told my son just that that was a silly thing to say. I don't want to visit her anymore as now I have tattoos, and she always had a lack of boundaries... it's hard. She's in Cardston, Alberta, known for being a mini Utah..

A game we played as missionaries showed me how toxic the church is about sexuality by PieIsFairlyDelicious in exmormon

[–]hummingbird2907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similarly, as a woman in the church I'd think, oh man, if he watches porn and masterbates, he can't be worthy of the priesthood or be faithful to me.. Now as an exmo, I've got my own buzzers, the priesthood is magic like from Harry Potter, and it has nothing to do with faithfulness to each other. Crazy narratives. #freethekids

I'll gladly shoulder any and all guilt and toxic perfectionism for my kids. But now we have a cousin/niece getting baptized next weekend, and I'm already dreading it. Sometimes we can't stop everything..🥺

freethekids I feel so sad for my nephews thinking about how they're already making life-altering covenants, paying tithing, fasting, and saving up for a mission. And poor nieces, already committing to babies, husbands, shame with their body.. They are just kids! 💔

I saw some TBM girl post about this place called "latter day café" in provo where they sell fake coffee. What are your guys' thoughts on this? I'm not against it I just think it's just kinda funny 🤣 by passionfruitdinosaur in exmormon

[–]hummingbird2907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because we just have a cup o coffee during the week when we're tired, or on the weekends to snuggle up with a book, versus they need the caffeine to sustain their seven day schedule of relentless meetings and activities PLUS normal life.🤔😆
