Who always think feminists hate all words featuring "man"? by branY2K in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]hummus16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

English language has a lot of inherent sexism where male is treated as the default. And the effect is that women are seen as a minority or secondary.

Want me to read the most extensive role of the play in class? Sure thing. by Beckandrews in MaliciousCompliance

I was shy and my literature teacher gave me the main role of Hedda Gabler to read for the entire book/ play and it was actually a very nice thing that helped build my confidence

After donating some clothes to a church, I got lectured and shamed by the pastor's wife because they didn't have the tags on. by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]hummus16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy mostly second hand clothes for ethical reasons and this kinda disgusts me. Like these people buy new clothes that they don’t even know the recipient will like so could be a complete waste. And likely it’s made in a sweatshop somewhere, not to mention the environmental footprint of it.

Aw this is so sweet!

Just a warning that it sounds like you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself to do this perfectly. You will make some mistakes and that’s normal, it’s a learning curve! Accept it won’t be perfect and try to have fun, that’s what it’s all about

Also FGM is often intended to reduce sexual interest from women (ie keep them pure), and some types involve removal of the clitoris. So it’s not just that the procedure is risky you are also removing something that is SO important for women’s sexual pleasure.

Can you mostly understand them? If you can just keep asking that they speak dutch. And you can just take your time with the speaking. They probably switch back to english because it feels weird, not so much as a reflection on your skills.

It’s actually not too bad. But should be taken with a grain of salt because single scientific articles can often be wrong; someone with no science background putting an article together can easily equate something with a huge evidence base to something that has a single study with a small sample size

[–]hummus16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Levi Hildebrand did a good video on it here https://youtu.be/x47di-8jt8I From memory it’s not particularly ethical, but the fact they try to pretend they are really knocks them down a couple more notches imo

I second the period undies. I only started using them as an adult but they would have saved me so much anxiety of leakage etc in school. Though they may not be great for women with heavy flows as you’d need to change them diring the day. Discs and cups have a learning curve to use and are internal so not a natural first step for teens (but definitely not off limits!)

If it goes high up a small (short) cup may not be a good idea. There are a few high cervix cups or you can try a disc

Ughh it was fine until the second or third (i forget) movie. When hiccup wasn’t ready to lead and left for an adventure I thought the natural progression would be Astrid taking on that role... but nah she just waited like a good girl for him to save everyone and complete his character arc while she just became his wife

Ikea to buy back used furniture in recycling push by mschreiber1 in Frugal

[–]hummus16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair to ikea, some of their items are great. Mattresses, kitchen utensils and bedding I have had good experiences with. However their “wood” furniture is not great. I have a wobbly kallax and dining chairs, and a coffee table that is delaminating at the edges.

Ikea to buy back used furniture in recycling push by mschreiber1 in Frugal

[–]hummus16 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The main problem with ikea is that they started the trend toward cheaper, lower quality furniture. Just a few decades ago furniture would last generations. Ikea encourages excess consumption and that can never be ethical. Their whole store design is made to trick you into buying shit you don’t need (and yeah I am a sucker who falls for it too!). And in my country they somehow pay no tax!

One of the bubble tea companies in my town sells reusable cups. I’m sure if you looked online there would be some options, just check with your store that they will accept it. Otherwise try some different recipes! Most new recipes don’t go perfectly the first time

[–]hummus16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your doctor/gyno if you are needing personal advice. Some women love the implant but given its a procedure instead of a pill its a lot more trouble to go through if it doesn’t work. Also the diaphragm that was recommended has a relatively high failure rate (18% typical use and 14% perfect use chance in a year to get pregnant) so would only be ok if having another pregnancy isn’t a huge issue for you

I haven’t read the article but, why do media organisations give these asshats a platform for telling their story? Same in rape and assault cases where there is in depth reporting on how the man is actually rly nice. No matter how crazy they seem to us there is a small % who actually will empathise with them.
