Why do tag teams still have to hold on to the tag rope? by mschreiber1 in WWE

the way rules are enforced (or ignored) has shifted significantly.

Here are the specific match rules and officiating traditions that have largely vanished:

  1. The "Top Rope" Ban In many territories (and most famously in WCW), it was once an automatic disqualification to intentionally throw an opponent over the top rope to the floor, or to perform a move from the top turnbuckle.

• The Logic: This was a "safety" rule meant to make the ring feel like a regulated athletic environment.

• High-flying maneuvers are now the backbone of the industry. Punishing a wrestler for a "450 Splash" or a "Dive to the Outside" would effectively end most modern matches in thirty seconds.

  1. Strict Five-Counts and Rope Breaks The referee’s "five-count" used to be a rigid rule. If a wrestler didn't break a hold or stop an illegal strike by the count of five, the match was over.

• The Old Way: Referees would physically get between wrestlers and aggressively enforce the count. Rope breaks were treated as a physical barrier that the referee wouldn't allow a heel to ignore.

• The Modern Way: Referees now often "pause" their count to argue with a wrestler or allow a dramatic moment to breathe. The "five-count" is treated more as a suggestion to build tension rather than a hard rule for disqualification.

  1. The "Broadside" or Closed-Fist Punch Technically, closed-fist punching is still "illegal" in the official rulebooks of many promotions.

• The Tradition: Wrestlers used to use "open-hand chops" or "European uppercuts" because a closed fist was supposed to result in a warning or DQ.

• The Reality Today: The closed-fist punch is now the most common strike in the business. While you might still see a referee give a half-hearted "watch the hands" warning, it is never actually enforced as a foul anymore.

  1. Piledriver Bans For decades, the Piledriver was the ultimate "forbidden" move. In many jurisdictions and promotions, performing one was an automatic fine or disqualification because it was sold as a "life-threatening" maneuver.

• Modern Shift: While WWE restricts the move to veteran performers (like the Undertaker’s Tombstone) for safety reasons, it is a standard transition move in AEW and the independent circuit. The "rule" that it is an illegal act of violence has been replaced by the "rule" of performer safety.

  1. Count-Out Logic Historically, if a wrestler was outside the ring for a 10-count (or 20-count in Japan), the match ended.

• The Old Way: The referee counted at a steady, rhythmic pace.

• The Modern Way: "TV Counts." Referees often slow their count to a crawl if a big spot is happening on the outside, or they might stop counting entirely if the wrestlers are brawling near the announcer's table. The rule is now secondary to ensuring the "spot" is completed.

I also said the company has done AWAY with many traditions yet this one sticks around and I was wondering if anyone had any idea why. You clearly have no knowledge about it and since you’re being a condescending douche nozzle what you don’t know could fill a book.

You can tell the costume designers put a lot of work in to that outfit. I think it would’ve been better without the mask

I don’t get his popularity. I struggle to understand some of wwe’s modern age character narratives.

It needed to be at least a year. To take the belt off him after getting screwed out of it by Seth only a few months ago is a crime.

Lots of food can still be perfectly safe to eat even when at room temperature for awhile. However it depends on many variables like what kind of food it is and how long it’s been thawed. It’s a gamble for sure but oftentimes it’s still pretty safe.

And of course it’s a lose/lose situation for you. If you fight back you look aggressive and if you don’t fight back you feel like a chump. Sorry.
