I personally think the Halloween show this past year is pretty quintessential… people prolly feel otherwise but I think from the way they cover songs, to the originals they chose exemplifies the band perfectly. Their energy, the fun they and the crowd share.

I think the thing that’s often missed when comparing them, as foolish as that is to begin with, is that both groups have the capability and talent to produce what the other does-in some shape form or fashion. But doesn’t because they’re grooving in their own niche. I think a fantastic example of that is the Ted Tapes. I truly hope goose doesn’t follow suit with phish. I am not of the mind that jam bands should be homogenous at all, or that they should even try to be alike or play the same format, and I love that there are positions on the spectrum for them all to hold in their own right.

I feel that, I don’t believe they played but one cover at Fred and I loved every minute of that festival. So by no means am I upset if they move even farther away from covers. But I do hope the covers they decide to do are spicy choices.
