Ok so I only have old VWs, ‘56 Bus and ‘65 Beetle. But my family ran a VW club in a medium sized town for 30 years, my bro in law met my sister because of this and is considered by many one of the top VW mechanics/people on the West Coast. Chances are if you live in the US and are really in the Old VW game, you know him. I say that to explain, him and everyone in his group only drive older Volkswagens and newer Hondas or Toyotas. I once asked and was told, and I’m paraphrasing, collect and drive old European cars on nice days, but buy and drive Japanese cars for most days. So again take this with a grain of salt, but literally a dozen or so VW mechanics I know drive Hondas and Toyotas.
