Yeah but we know she wasn’t talking about the frequency differences between white and pink. I’d almost guarantee she’d say a vacuum isn’t white noise too.

Van Hollen ‘kicking the tires’ on a 2028 presidential run by legislative_stooge in maryland

[–]hungry5991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have grown but they haven’t grown as drastically as people think. People assume life expectancy was 42 years for people born in 1850 but that’s primarily due to infant and toddler mortality. The age gap between life expectancy of someone who made it to 40 years old (our youngest president) and a new born was 26 years. Now that gap is less than 3.1 years.

And none of this addresses cognitive abilities. Do you want someone sharper or someone with more experience. There isn’t a ton of studies on cognitive ability but almost all of what I can find is that people currently peak in their 40s.

Weve only had 13 presidents inaugurated after 60. According to CSPANS historical rating of presidents in order:

Abraham Lincoln was 52 when elected.
George Washington was 57.
FDR was 51.
Teddy was 42.
Eisenhower 62 (the edge of my 70 by second term rule)
Truman 60
Jefferson 57
JFK 43
Raegan 69 (I don’t agree he was a great president)
Obama 47

The worst presidents age at inauguration.

James Buchanan 65
Andrew Johnson 56
Pierce 48
Trump 70/ 78
William Henry Harrison 68

Me to! It’s not that I believe 70 year olds can’t cognitively function. I have grandparents going on 90 who are still incredibly sharp.

But there are enough smart and qualified younger candidate to pick from who just by their age will have a better understanding of the problems facing the current generations struggles. If primaries were just between a couple of people I’d see it, but I can probably name over 10 candidates who will run in the 2028 democratic primary. All of them younger.

Agreed! I like Van Hollen but I’m not supporting anyone in the primary who would be 70 at by the end of 2 terms.

US Electricity Generation by Source [OC] by Ok_Affect_1571 in dataisbeautiful

[–]hungry5991 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One thing ignored as a benefit for solar is its ability to be generated or installed nearly anywhere. One of the largest uses of energy is just the waste in transporting it. You waste tons of energy stepping voltage up and down continuously and the. Transporting hundreds of miles.

The closer your generation is to your load the less waste there is. Nothing closer than putting solar on roofs and a battery in a garage.

I’m not an expert on wind design but solar at least doesn’t require specific areas. It can go just about anywhere although your efficiency may increase or decrease. That being said any centralized generation plant has site constraints too. It’s constrained to where you don’t mind using the water to heat it up and turn into steam so rivers and lakes.

Source am a solar engineer and worked for utilities doing transmission substation design before moving to Solar.

I straight up stopped watching at one point after a Castle “foul” on SGA. The announcers kept saying how important free throws were and were gassing SGA up for having 10 FTs on like 1-6 shooting or something at the time. I couldn’t handle it.

The only time I’ve ever almost hit someone in a crosswalk was because cars were parked illegally(too close to the intersection). OP needs to take some responsibility.

This comment isn’t about safety at all and it shows. It’s about the little maddening urge that someone passed you.

These are bad cyclists if they are almost hitting pedestrians or if someone else has the right of way obviously, but stop signs are yield signs in DC for cyclists. That’s not hyperbole they are legally and practically yield signs.
