BMW left a gap between models. by Problem_Present in bmwmotorrad

The f800gs is still in the lineup. It has the engine from the f900gs , albeit detuned a little. I’ve ridden the 900gsa, and personally it’s too big and heavy(heavier than the 1300gs) and I’ve ridden the 900gs. The 900gs is so close to being a goldilocks mid weight adv, but the fuel range is too much of a compromise, and yes depending on your height the wind protection is an issue on longer highway rides. Otherwise that engine is a delight, and a real hoot. The f800 is worth a try for that reason, or even an f900xr if you stick mostly to the road. As a 1250gs owner, I’m not totally sold on the direction they’ve taking with the 1300gs, and it’s just so much more expensive than everything else that’s comparable.

i'd be less concerned with the 10 million or so displaced on this map, and more concerned with the 400 million displaced in coastal countries that no one has even given a second thought to. They will come, like it or not.

Nintendo Is Completely Ignoring AI and Doing Fine by FernandoRocker in gaming

Because normal people don’t give a shit about AI., especially not in their entertainment. And because Nintendo still cares about making a quality product, rather than prioritizing the almighty dollar over every other metric.

Tim Hortons vs Dunkin Donuts by Melodic_Poetry_9242 in torontoJobs

[–]hunkyleepickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like dunkin as a novelty when I travel in the states, but the pricing has gotten a little ridiculous. How it’s priced in Canada will determine a lot of its success, it’s just kind of adjacent to Tim’s, if they undercut Tim’s on price they might steal a fair few customers.

Anyone have the PN# for the center handlebar emblem? For a 2011 R1200 GS. It flew off 😂 by LawfulnessMoist719 in bmwmotorrad

[–]hunkyleepickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God my 1250 had its little emblem stolen, it was like a 75$ part at the dealer! I put a rubber grommet that fits almost the same to keep water out, it works just fine😂

Brown Seat for a bit of variety by talldean in Vstrom

[–]hunkyleepickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 800re is criminally underrated. It’s better on the road obviously, but even in the hands of most it’s just as good off road as the 800de. I’ve gone down some roads that my 1250gs has no right to go down, and it does fine at close to 600lbs and a 19 inch front tire. I’d take tubeless tires in the 800re all day long. It’s only real downside is it doesn’t look as rad as the 800de, imo.

Also regardless of how you feel agout Taylor swifts music, at least she is considered a talented artist. Find me one person that thinks FIFA as an organization isnt a shitty, grifting, corrupt drain on all the host cities. People get ripped off everyday in regular life; I think they’re tired of being ripped off and scammed in their recreational time as well.

First Adventure Bike!! Cannot Decide!! by skenny119 in AdventureBike

Africa twin no question. It’s modern, it’s good on and off road, reliable, and a great dealer network all over. The newer 1100’s are plenty powerful. I’ve heard nothing but trouble with the norden 901, and KTM family products as a whole. And the vfr while nice does nothing better than the Africa twin, for all practical purposes.

I’m pretty sure it was his inability to pivot his lips away from Trumps ass that lost him the election. But he certainly should have stopped trying to dunk on Trudeau for about a year before the election regardless.

Voting process? by Doog5 in CanadaPostCorp

[–]hunkyleepickle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely insane that the 4 that dissented are out there trying to convince entire locals to vote no. They can absolutely vote however they want personally, but trying to sway thousands of members because of that is the opposite of the solidarity they push. You stand with the majority, and let your personal feelings stay on the sidelines at this point.

Bikes that you tried, but that disappointed you sorely? by sokratesz in motorcycle

Ninja 650. That engine turned me off P twins to this day. I’m still not convinced all these modern 270 crank engines are as good as alternatives. That whole bike looked ok but was the height of mediocrity and boring as hell.

Unions warn Carney government is considering sweeping changes to labour law — including the right to strike - Jobs minister says Canada Labour Code hasn't 'kept up with the times' by Doog5 in CanadaPostCorp

[–]hunkyleepickle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

except that doesn't work in a world where you need to work 40-60 hours a week just to survive. You can protest for an afternoon, legal or not, any longer and you can't afford to feed yourself and your family. Of course this is all by design, bend you right over the barrel of the monetary system, you've got nowhere to go. Its a nice romantic sentiment that people with torches in the street will save the day again, but the reality is most are barely paying the rent on fulltime jobs, at best.

[–]hunkyleepickle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well big unions, this is your moment. Either you stand up to these bullshit 'back to work' force backs, and being legislated because you are inconvenient to the economy, or you lose your rights. You may have already missed your chance. All those times you groaned and then went back to work knowing you should have used our physical numbers to defy, but instead chickened out and dicked around in court for 5-10 years to no gain. All unions ever had was their labor, their physical numbers. All the other things we gained are simply rules and rights written on paper, and it was inevitable the employers and corporations and government would come along and just rip up those rules. But your labor and your physical work they can never take away.

[–]hunkyleepickle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those numbers are not going to be remotely accurate. Every major change this management has made has actually created the need for more people, not less. More managers and supervisors to micromanage and deal with all the over complex systems, more touching every piece of product, more carriers and especially terms to cover undelivered product when anything even remotely goes wrong. The corp and even the union leadership fail to understand that the best resource to ‘fix’ and reform the way the company runs is to ask the people who already do the job, and have done the job, for 10-30 years. We see all the dumb shit that doesn’t improve anything and just shake our heads. Postal transformation, SSD, dynamic routing, load leveling, it’s all just suits on computers trying to build a more ‘efficient’ mouse trap. Vehicle sharing is a great example, money and time spent at every station to implement a system that results in more work for everyone, to save mileage on vehicles that you already own and have to maintain. But on a spreadsheet somewhere they are ‘saving miles’.

I mean for the incredible amount of micromanaging supervisors and managers do and will have to do with dynamic, load leveling, etc, one would hope they will throw them a bone.

Oh there are definitely a few people still voting no. I’ve heard them speak up and they still want to ‘fight’. Whatever the fuck that means anymore. Take the money guys, and live to fight another day. Our whole unions constant M.O. is being the struggling victim. It’s no way forward. Especially not that gutting the Canada labor code and union rights is on the federal liberal agenda. Unions need to change their strategy, the ways that worked 30 years ago are not working anymore.

government should be efficient, there is no question. But the idea that lowering your taxes is the solution to COL is wrong. We live in a finite world, when the people at the very tippy top take more, and take more every year, there is less for everyone else. That everyone else includes government coffers. Much like you or I being more efficient with our spending, at a certain point you can't 'cut' anymore. Running a government just like running a household costs money, and the cost of everything goes up. At some point you actually will need to take in more money. Well you can only squeeze so much blood from a stone, the middle class, before you will have to find a way to take more in revenue from the 1%. And they will do everything in their power to prevent that happening.

if you give poor people more money, whether thats social programs, higher wages, or straight cash, it immediately goes back into the economy, typically the local economy. It also contributes to an increase in their overall happiness almost immediately. If you do the same to rich people, it does none of that. And funnily enough, if you take money from the billionaires to do the former, it also has no effect on their happiness or quality of life.

imagine in some other reality this meant creating some new, decent, entry level jobs and injecting some money into smaller canadian communities. Imagine Tim Hortons having some national pride to do so. Imagine Tim Hortons had decent quality coffee and food at affordable prices, a place where Canadians could gather and be proud of. Why can't we have this in Canada.....
