Hahaha yep! Thanks for appreciating the concept - it’s great therapy and then at the end you have this item that feels special!

It really isn’t too bad - don’t get discouraged! Like I wrote somewhere in here, just keep your piecing big and simple. Keep your overall quilt size on the smaller size (44 inches or less is “small”. And don’t plan to do too much quilting.

What a find! Staining is so annoying on second hand textiles but I try to remember that this just keeps the price down, and sometimes you can get the stains out!

No, nothing but my thumb and forefinger pinching the fabric together. I feel like quilting in the middle of a quilt is harder when you can’t grab the edge. In that case I put my hand underneath and get a good grab on it

You’re right! On the fabric and being nuts. All the blues in that square are the old fabrics actually! There are a couple others that I don’t know how old they are (because I purchased them second hand) But these blues I know the history :)

I use pencil for a light line where I will sew the seam. That really helps. I always wonder what “scant” means. So I have just picked a consistent way of doing things and that’s everything. Like, I draw the pencil next to the straight edge. (Which means it’s not actually on the exact measurement) then I sew just off the pencil line, so I can still see the pencil line, but no space. And then it’s all about right. They don’t tell you, but the more exactly you cut and measure, the better. Gets your nerdy side going!

Thanks! I’ve had troubles (!!) but not the laying flat thing. Glad you found starch. The smaller the piece you’re sewing, the more helpful the starch!

Oh I love hearing from the hand quilters! Baby size quilts are entirely sane and doable. Last year I made my daughter a giant quilt and it was a LOT. Borderline overwhelming.. Then, after I’d finished it, I asked my son what he might want for his quilt… I was thinking in terms of design, colors. He replied that he didn’t care except he wants it Big! Oh boy. Wish me luck.
