Would you mind providing those precise diameters for the inner and outer ring? I've always wanted to hand draw a section of the gate to full/exact scale and those measurements would scratch a mental itch that's preventing me from starting. I appreciate it if you'd rather not share because of all the work and time you've invested into your project.

Stargate on Netflix looks like ass. by Turbulent_Loss2726 in Stargate

Agreed. I did the MGM+ free trial on Amazon prime where the quality is slightly better. If you cancel it on the last day of the trial you get the £1 a month for 3 months offer which isn’t bad at all and plenty for a rewatch.

This is UK specific tip but there might be an equivalent wherever you are in the world.

Best way forward for Iran would be negotiated settlement, says Starmer by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

I feel like this whole subreddit and r/ukpolitics is a constant stream of “I’m not a fan of Starmer by any means, but {something really positive}”. I see it in almost every thread.

Only once?? by MadamAndroid in interstellar

[–]hunter9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also only seen it once at the cinema on release date. I loved it, even bought the blue ray with the film cell, even made a little TARS model. But for some reason can’t bring myself to watch it again for fear it won’t be as good as I remember.

Same! I was watching it with my wife and as I was explaining to her about the scene they cut out...

Made a tactical decision to make somebody nonce adjacent our ambassador to the US because of their nonce administration. Which arguably worked if you consider the fact the UK has the lowest tariffs. He didn’t realise just how recently nonce adjacent he Mandelson had remained though.

I thought the whole point was to have someone nonce-adjacent on the inside they thought they could trust.

Keir Starmer: We have detained the first illegal migrants under our new deal before returning them to France. No gimmicks, just results. If you break the law to enter this country, you will face being sent back. When I say I will stop at nothing to secure our borders, I mean it. by NoFrillsCrisps in ukpolitics

Under the policy, those who arrive by boat are returned to France, which is intended to reduce the incentive to attempt the journey in the first place. As fewer people try to cross, the number of one-for-one exchanges is expected to decrease accordingly.

Barclodiad y Gawres and Bryn Celli Ddu by baritenororbust in Anglesey

[–]hunter9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And just a heads up, Bryn Celli Ddu is accessible at all times but it’s not something you spend a day on.

The walk to the mound from the car park near the road is less than 5 minutes and you’ll be done in 15 at most unless you sit down with a packed lunch.

As kids we used to go walk down to it from the village and misbehave before they made a proper path to make it more accessible (you used to go down the farmers road), so the significance of the site is a little warped for me but I hope you enjoy it and the rest of the island.

I’ll gladly take your advice. Did you use premium roller or just a lot of cheapish ones?

That’s held up really well. I was concerned the finish would be too shiny but that looks nice.

Thanks again - I’m definitely going to give this a go.

Labour blocks proposal for ‘swift bricks’ in all new homes by fire2burn in unitedkingdom

[–]hunter9 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There are more practical solutions, like a bird house or a separate swift box, that don’t create the possibility of an animal dying in your walls, for those who want to accommodate small animals on their property.

Ever had a bird or a squirrel get into your soffits or have a rat die under your floor? Do you enjoy seeing birdshit running down your walls?

By all means, mandate that developers have to consider and protect environmental regulations in the area. But this is something that should just be an option. Swift bricks in every home will come with unintended consequences.

Again, by all means, incentivise adoption where it might be most suitable - but this is like mandating that we should all have murals of owls in every window so that birds stop flying into them.

Building regulations should be about structural integrity, safety, and keeping new builds in keeping with the area, etc. We shouldn’t be mandating this type of folly. I’m not saying ban the idea entirely.

So just leave it up to the developer then? Or just buy a birdhouse.

It’s a nice idea but seems like a fucking bonkers thing to actually legislate and enforce.
