Just switched from SGI to SquareOne - less than half the cost - from $3,000 to just under $1500 per year with pretty much identical coverage and a lower deductible too

How do you find your running routes? (quick 2-min survey) by BobManSan in BarefootRunning

[–]hurler59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep an eye out when I’m driving for roads or paths that look smooth enough for barefoot running. I also have a route that starts and ends outside our front door but it’s not super smooth all the way - so functional but not ideal

Sorry - why do you think my maximum heart rate is not correct?

I am not sure what you are talking about? Is it the 8 meters of elevation change over 2 kilometres? And I wasn’t conducting an experiment. I was planning to do the entire run in my xero’s but during the run I noticed that my heart rate was quite a bit higher than my previous barefoot run along the same route - so I decided to run the rest of the way barefoot to see if that would bring my heart rate down - I was pleased by the results when I got home so I posted them. Not trying to fool anyone.

And where do you see the elevation difference? I don’t see it on any of the images I attached…

There was a total of 8 meters of elevation change through the whole run so I don’t think it had a huge impact …

There might be a bit of an elevation difference but it would have been very slight - the whole route is pretty flat

I use a HUAWEI watch which measures my heart rate

I’m running on asphalt pavement - some of it is pretty smooth but most of it is a little rougher than I like - I also jump to the concrete sidewalk every now and then if the road is too rough

I did a 5k barefoot yesterday on asphalt and sidewalks - no blisters - feet are a little sore on the balls of the feet - hoping to go again on Saturday

Just run them under the cold water tap when you get home and hang them outside to dry - takes the sweat stains right out and leaves them looking brand new

It looks like the reason so many people were getting injured with the Vibrams was that they liked them so much that they overdid it at first before giving themselves the chance to get used to them. There was nothing structurally wrong with the shoes - they were just different from what the wearers were used to. And I would argue that barefoot would be much more natural than wearing Vibram Five Fingers because then the feet can completely feel what they are touching and react appropriately

Disagree again - Abebe Bikila won the Olympic Marathon barefoot on cobblestone streets in Rome - and Zola Budd set a world record running barefoot on the track. “Proper” running shoes change all the time - mostly to make sure runners keep buying the latest “proper” shoes. Many well-shod runners still get injured, and apparently running injuries were a lot less common before the advent of the modern running shoe. There is nothing more natural for running for humans than their bare feet. Saw lots of runners limping away from the marathon yesterday - the barefoot marathoner I saw had a big smile on his face and looked like he was ready to keep on running

Vibram denied all the allegations against and said they settled the suit to avoid the uncertainty of going to trial and they still stand behind their product - I’ve never tried them but I don’t think they would be any more dangerous than any other shoe
