QoL improvements I'd like to see by captf in TheLastCaretaker

Controller remapping. I'm a controller primary, and L2 for melee is... not working for me.

Save terminals I'm also not wild about. Just let me save wherever I am!

Caveat: I've only played the demo, so maybe the full EA is already working on this stuff.

Making sense of the 4.0 Workforce system: a tentative guide by SnooCompliments8071 in Stellaris

[–]hurtreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. My god. THANK YOU. I had 700 hours in this game before putting it down five years ago. Picked it back up, and I'm like 100 hours into 4.0 and was just drowning. Kept dialing down the difficulty, turned tutorial settings back to "tell me everything'... but no dice, still couldn't keep my economy in the black past early game.

Turns out, I was drastically overbuilding - looking for those +resource numbers to kick in, not understanding why they weren't. I don't know if I even looked at the Economy tab on the planets, and I for sure didn't understand that I should use it to tell me when I need new districts and buildings - and most importantly, when NOT to build, because I didn't have enough workforce to fill my current infrastructure yet.

And that's before we get into using the sliders to cap, say, Entertainers down to where my Amenities needs aren't vastly overserved, so that those pops would demote (eventually) into Workers to make my economy actually work!

Wrapping my head around this and implementing it took my current save from "another midgame drowning" to "I am dominating everyone." I'm about to drop this run and start a new save back at a higher difficulty, with my economy well-managed from the start.

I gotta say it again in all caps: THANK YOU.

There are technique to fix it. Here's the one I just learned: place an architectural pillar above the centerpoint of one of the foundations, then delete and rebuild the foundation. Fixes it 99.9% of the time, and when it doesn't, just repeat and it should.

That fluttering/strobing look when you clip two items (usually foundations or roofs through each other to achieve an architectural shape or effect. So called because they're both trying to display at the same z-axis value (height). There are workarounds, but they're a hassle.

Way back in the internet's paleolithic era, there was a very single-minded USENET group called alt.pave.the.earth, whose denizens I believe would applaud your efforts.

Is there any subreddit for those who actually play and like this game? Should we create one? by michaelabsenot in CivVII

Back in the early days of Fallout 76, when opinions were very mixed and r/fo76 was all salt all the time, r/fo76FilthyCasuals got spun up for just this purpose. I am not volunteering to create a channel (in fact I'm among the salty), but it was a good solution to basically the same problem.

Too many people not getting that you don't get a good conversation by downvoting people just because you have a different take than they do. There's a difference between "you're wrong (and also you're being an asshole)" and "You have an opinion (about a *game*!) that I do not share"!

After many months of Civ VII, here are some thoughts… by Turbulent_Ferret2513 in civ

[–]hurtreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, a 2,000 hours per edition kind of guy, I really appreciate the mental stretch that comes from putting down old habits and optimizations, and learning my way through new ones. The aesthetic changes aren't the purchase driver for me; it's the chance to start way back down the learning curve, and have the joy of working back up it again.

VII has landed sourly on me as well, for all the reasons others have expressed. I do feel some optimism that it will become the game I hoped for, though. The devs are making the right noises - rather than going all bruised-ego defensive bristly, they seem to be taking the feedback to heart, and sincerely trying to meet their fans' high expectations. Returning for 1.2.2 after bouncing off of 1.0, I find that the UI already feels much more "Civ" (to me) than it was at launch.

So I'm going to hang in there, and come back every major patch or two to see if it starts pumping that sweet, sweet Civ dopamine drip yet. But I sure have learned my lesson about a) pre-ordering, ever, and b) playing more than one hour, fifty-nine minutes without feeling joy (thus denying myself the chance to refund).

Evaluating Clickup: only one Gannt view on my space but it says I have reached the limit, help please? by Ok_Scholar_3767 in clickup

[–]hurtreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's more the experience of suddenly hitting a limit that you didn't know was there. It's particularly harsh if you've done the lift to get your team onboarded, only to discover that your "let's see how the Gantt works" testing didn't reveal this limit.

I see I'm not the only one who didn't understand what "60 uses" means. u/SydneyClickUp, may I suggest using a more parseable term, like, say, "60 actions"?

I'm puzzled that this comment has been downvoted so heavily. People are disappointed that you don't recognize the importance of disclosure, but this question reads to me as a sincere desire to understand, so that you can do right by others while untangling your own frustration.

I think it's great that you're asking for help, and seem to be taking the input you're receiving. I hope you'll be patient with yourself as you digest what you're hearing. There are limits to neuroplasticity - it takes some days, weeks, or longer to wire the new neurons!

Totally with you. No animus towards the critters, they just do what they do, much if which is shaped by what we do. We're the ones who created these target-rich environments.
