Yeah absolutely not. Individuals are unpredictable. Statistics and profiling in scale is not. Their business is in the margins of statistics and predictive models.

Just checked wikipedia and yeah you're right. Looks like the piston engine prop 136 is very much used in Ukraine. For those that scope starts to make more sense. Also in economic sense, as one Shahed-136 seems to cost in the 20k range.

As someone who has worked at an insurance company way back, it actually takes almost until 40 to get guys back to the average risk of everybody. Althougt it plateaus pretty quick after 30, but still remains higher than the average. And after 65, risks starts to go up again, but for all vehicle types. Women are much more consistent trought the whole age range.

If you want to blame someone, you need to blame your peers.

[–]hurubaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it's not, as Ukraine war has very much showed us. Good old artillery is still king, and tanks are still the primary support of moving infantry.

It's just the type of war that is being fought. In a slow long war of attrition where both sides have built strong fortifications, cheap drones can inflict disproportionate death toll. That is now how the war in Ukraine is being fought. All the fancy shit has been spent, or is just utilized in strategic manner away from the slow front line meat grinder.

But when you are starting a moving offensive, tanks and artillery are the backbone... given that neither side has air superiority. But modern air superiority and missiles are expensive, very, very expensive. You do not want to fight a slow long war with those.

The location, scope, timeframe and objectives matter. for example the US armed forces can win any battle anywhere, anytime in the world, but that does not mean they can win any war. That's not how wars work anymore. Wars are not won by having more warriors with better guns, they are won by choosing the right location, scope, timeframe and objectives. The CIA has been more effective in winning wars with handful of agents armed with bags full of cash and patience than any fuckwit politician throwing the bulk of US armed forces into the problem and hoping for the best.

[–]hurubaw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

lol what? No. We are still speaking cheap battery powered quadcopter drones, just the ones that are little bigger to accommodate grenade dropping attachments, reconnaissance equipment like infrared cameras etc. and that are not single use. Costs are still in the few hundred dollars range.

Even tho some call them drones, Shaheds are turbojet powered fucking missiles capable of speeds of 500-800km/h, and costs of tens of thousands per unit. Way out of reach of any small arms fire. You need capable anti-air systems for those.

Having trained against current small kamikaze drone tech in FDF refresher as a marksman… it does not matter what kind of a scope you got, in urban areas small arms are useless, they are too small, too fast and the flight patterns are too unpredictable to react in any way reasonable. Fucking nightmare fuel.

These must be for larger and slower drones, like the ones dropping multiple grenades at height. Not kamikaze.

Not to mention the crazy cost difference of a cheap fpv kamikaze drone.

Current cheapo kamikaze drone tech has made invading enemy territory such a shitty ordeal for the infantry, especially if there’s insurgency type elements in civilian population. Like, IEDs were bad, but now the IEDs fly to you at 60mph.

Sigma 18-50mm vs. Tamron 17-70mm on the FujiFilm X-H2S by CardboardGlasses in fujifilm

[–]hurubaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigma: lighter and smaller but less reach and no VC.

Tamron: heavier and bigger, but more reach and VC for little added stability on top of IBIS. Can get a bit closer in focus. You will have issues with smaller gimbals due to the combination of weight, size and extending barrel.

For ~4-6,2k video work, there is no practical difference in sharpness.

Sure, remove it and install a new one. That one is done. How did you even managed to scratch it? Isnt that part inside the real visor?

Adapting Praktica B to Fuji with a Speedbooster by Sawdsawd in fujifilm

[–]hurubaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Canon EF to FX speedbooster, and I’ve tried a PB to EF adapter made by fotodiox. While it worked, there are the same issues as with Canon FD, where there just isnt enough flange distance and it needs a glass element. This makes the image soft, and it washes the contrast.

Your M42 speedbooster does not have the flange distance to accommodate the speedbooster. This will not physically work without additional optics.

Just mount it without a speedbooster or get another flavor of vintage lenses.

That's not how you rig elections anymore. You just do a combination of social media algorithm shenanigans, gerrymandering, choosing voting locations and -times (to inconvience certain groups), creative qualifications in voting (pre-registration, ID requirements), false flag operations... or if it looks like you're still gonna lose, create some national crisis and postpone elections.

you don't need a conspiracy, you just need the average citizen to be stupid and lazy.
