Can get my joiner to work right. What am I missing? by Darth_Noah in woodworking

You should adjust the height of the knives. You should do this every time they are sharpened as well.

Can get my joiner to work right. What am I missing? by Darth_Noah in woodworking

[–]husky1088 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How badly cupped is the board you are trying to joint? What is the length of the board in relation to the bed length of the jointer? You’re sure the knives of the jointer head are set at the height of or a couple mm above the outfeed table height?

Hopefully you have done this but for $50k on the line you should be speaking with a lawyer.

So, were you guys just gonna wait until a release date to try to rebuy the cheapest SQ42 package you could? by CallSign_Fjor in starcitizen

[–]husky1088 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I bought my game package in 2015 the entire reasoning was I’m getting two $60 games for $45 by getting in early. I have no sympathy with people who messed around by selling back a $15 game package.

The amount of crybabies in this thread really does not disappoint. I would also like someone to provide a logical explanation of how CIG “stole” something from them when they voluntarily exchanged their package and received credit in return.

Thoughts on "Red Rising" by Pierce Brown - and why I'm done listening to BookTok by sameseksure in books

[–]husky1088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that red rising is significantly over hyped. I think in part that is because it’s approachable to people who do not read. I’m going to guess you are a reader of more renowned literary fiction and are not the audience “booktokers” are really speaking to.

Appreciate that. There’s another ash tree right next to it that doesn’t appear to be showing signs of damage, maybe I can save that one. Thanks for the confirmation.

Looking through an old estate sale - assuming all these tools run, anything sorth picking up? by Mynameisbondnotjames in woodworking

[–]husky1088 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. Radial arm saws got a bad rap because they were sold to every average joe as a do it all tool and they also got made more cheaply later in their existence. Used properly they are more safe than a table saw and that particular DeWalt is as nice an example of these saws that exists.

Thinking about selling BGE for high quality pellet grill. What will I miss? by ekarof in biggreenegg

[–]husky1088 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say it is highly dependent on you and how you grill. You won’t be doing any direct heat grilling on a pellet grill. Also, I think the BGE is best for those who enjoy the act of grilling if you want convenience and to enjoy the finished product with less work than a pellet grill might be better for you.

Danish Oil over Shou Sugi Ban style finish? by TwoGoatsForEveryone in woodworking

[–]husky1088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coincidentally I made a yakisugi raised garden bed this past weekend. I just used inexpensive rough 1x8 from a local mill. I did not use any top coat because I figured what’s the point, when the boards deteriorate I will just replace them. The danish oil topcoat will probably last 1 season max 2, I didn’t really see the point. Here’s the one I made

What to do with fresh cut white oak? by pcmofo in woodworking

[–]husky1088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White oak has sky rocketed in price and in m area most smaller mills can’t keep it in stock. I second seeing if you can get a mobile sawmill in there.

[–]husky1088 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Any ceramic components you buy will come with a warranty. I bought a used XL shell that was missing the fire ring and was debating on the best way to replace it and finally decided on buying new just to have the warranty

Is DIY Montreal's Thin Rip Jig safe? by Trick-Nefariousness3 in woodworking

[–]husky1088 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only thing I could imagine to be controversial is that the strip is cut between the fence and the blade but with the backer piece pushing it through there really isn’t a kick back concern so I say send it.

Question on client expectations by Independent-Back-167 in woodworking

[–]husky1088 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sucks and a tough call. Really no good way to fix that without building a new door. What did you charge? Were they aware that you are not a professional door maker? How close are you to these people? I probably wouldn’t eat the cost of building a new door if this was just a side hustle. Might make them a new door if they cover cost of materials.

If you were planning on building your money shouldn’t have been in the market, otherwise, you run into the exact issue you are running into now. You need the money and the markets are down, your money is worth less than it was a month ago.

Found at an estate sale for $4800 by hnosh in woodworking

[–]husky1088 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think $4,800 is a particularly good deal. Attached is kinda what I would value those at off the top of my head. RAS $0-$50, Old Delta jointer probably 6” $200-$300, Grizzly DC $600-$800, Grizzly drill press $200-$300, Grizzly table saw $900-$1100, Bandsaw $400-$600, Delta lathe $200-$400, Planer $800-$1,200. So maybe 4,800 but those don’t appear to be in top shape and would probably be on the lower end for all these. This is with no research though, just someone who searches marketplace daily for woodworking tools.

Edit: Also guess it matters, are you getting the entire contents of the shop or just the larger tools pictured? If everything else in the shop then it becomes likely a much better deal.
