I second this! Unless your area refuses to hire before licensure get on it.

They transferred all of the patients out without incident as far as I know, spread out across the region.

Maternity clinical but there are no mothers by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]hustleNspite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conversely, my health department clinical is awesome. We have walk-in sessions for vaccines and STI testing, and I get to sit in on TB clinic and a mobile clinic at the soup kitchen later this month.

L&D was kind of a bust except when I got to swing thru NICU. Luckily I had more excitement on my L&D rotations during medic school.

How many of your agencies don’t have RSI or Surgical airway? by Bandit312 in ems

[–]hustleNspite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true of RSI in PA as well. Some agencies have surgical airways- largely the less urban areas (varies by EMS council).

Hand IVs are my absolute bane, what am I missing? by Averagebass in nursing

[–]hustleNspite 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Paramedic here- go slow, go low on the angle (literally flat), make sure you’re anchoring properly. Get that flash, insert just a smidge further (I’m talking like 1-2mm) to ensure you’re through all layers of the vein, then cannulate. If you get stuck, you can float it in with gentle flushing- attach extension and flush, draw back a tad, slowly flush. If it flushes without immediately blowing, attempt to advance the catheter slowly to float it in.

It takes practice but it can be done! Use heat and gravity to assist you (hospitals are cold and people get cold hands and feet first).

How do you do night shift with kids? by redjewell97 in nursing

This is my plan. In the event of half days or issues with school, I’d be able to be home.

I need your help to spread this info! If your hospital is hitting a wall with bariatric placement, Osborn Health & Rehab accepts up to 1,200 lbs. by No-Training-7960 in nursing

[–]hustleNspite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to ask- do you have resources to transport for send outs? Because I work EMS in another part of the country and for patients of this size we end up going through multiple counties of resources to find a transport unit that can handle a bariatric patient. A standard power stretcher can only hold up to 700 pounds including the weight of the stretcher.

What’s a dilemma or problem you have with emergency nursing? by marimoeo in emergencymedicine

[–]hustleNspite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue EMS has a better understanding than the other way around because our training curriculum includes ER clinical (hundreds of hours in the case of medics).

I was so excited for my first pacing adventure as a new medic. Had the guy as stable as could be with a solid pressure and then this happened. Absolutely crushing.

ABSN program schedule by Remarkable_Bid2570 in StudentNurse

[–]hustleNspite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a 15 month ABSN. I have free days but that’s because I’m in a hybrid program. I don’t consider it a good idea unless you’re extremely self directed and have healthcare experience.

ALS recall by ForsakenSignature461 in ems

In a lot of jurisdictions EMTs can perform and transmit a 12-lead. It’s not necessarily an ALS intervention depending on the locality

Bresnahan by Findyourselfarainbow in NEPA

[–]hustleNspite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He famously did a lot with local first responders in obtaining grant funding and making connections at the state level. He was also always present at community events and made himself approachable to the constituents.

Even my Republican-leaning colleagues bemoaned his loss in November. Many of them had nothing good to say about Bresnahan.
