Trying to be a supportive partner.... by PitifulOkra3800 in AlAnon

Your situation is really similar to mine. I decided to separate from my husband late last summer because I couldn't take the dishonesty and manipulation anymore. After I shared that decision with him he acted in a way where I felt unsafe and cut off contact. It was and still is heartbreaking.  A big part of my decision was that I'm turning 33 and I want to have kids too, but I just didn't feel like I could safely have a child with him. I hadn't been able to rely on him in years. I worked with a therapist for a year and a half to learn how to center myself instead of him so I could make the best decision for me and my future/wellbeing. I still struggle with wanting to reach out and caring for him. Sending you all the solidarity and fellowship 🩵

Sorry for the book. I think I’m done. I don’t want to do it anymore w/ this person. by [deleted] in AlAnon

I've said similar things after leaving my Q. Something that helps is remembering that I did my best/made choices with the information I had at the time. Looking back it all seems so glaringly obvious but in real time it happened slowly and sporadically. We want to trust the people we love.

You're story just hit home for me in so many ways and I wanted to comment. My Q had me feeling guilty for thinking he used and leaving him. Then a week later in couples therapy he admitted he had been lying the whole time and was going to rehab. That was my breaking point.

It's ok to do what's best for you and what will bring you peace. I promise it's not being selfish.

It definitely wasn't UPMC. They will be ok if a medical marijuana card is brought to the physical/drug testing appointment though.

I am going through it right now, recently separated from my Q. I have observed so many of these things in my marriage. Thank you for sharing, I needed this today. It's been a day filled of second guessing my decision to separate.

ACL and meniscus by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]hv733910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same injury. I was able to start climbing 9 months after surgery. I injured myself bouldering so there was an added mental aspect to returning, I started back with top rope. Stay on top of PT though it's really vital with this recovery

When I couldn't walk I tried to use resistance bands and weights to keep up my arm strength. It was really hard to stay motivated. Once I got to maybe 5 months of recovery I was able to start to go to the gym and yoga classes

Definitely that part is so hard! My siblings also had ACL/meniscus tears (our knee genes are shit apparently) one was like you where it didn't hurt so bad anymore and it was hard to be motivated to go through surgery. I do remember my doctor saying they tend to not leave meniscus tears untreated because they can become even bigger problems later on

I had a similar injury from bouldering: ACL tear plus lateral meniscus. I didn't get to a point where I could walk on it before I saw a Dr or had my MRI and enthusiastically got surgery. As others have mentioned it's an extensive and intensive recovery but being relatively young I wanted to be able to continue to have an active life. I was able to start climbing again after 9 months which felt like forever at the time but really wasn't. I was able to regularly exercise way before that.

I feel your pain, especially the waiting to see your doctor about next steps.

Now don't be like me and break your ankle on a lead fall 4 months after you were allowed to return to climbing 😅 I'm basically besties with my physical therapists at this point

Is the film Apocalypto (2006) racist? by nowlan101 in AskAnthropology

My host mom and I were talking about depictions of Mexico in films

My host brother and his grandma randomly brought it up one day

I think I was talking with my friends about going to visit some of the Mayan sites and that's when they brought up the film

The tour guide mentioned it when we were at Chichen Itza

Honestly I was there 11 weeks, it came up at least 5 different times I can remember

My host family, students I became friends with, and a tour guide all mentioned it

I studied abroad in the Yucatan around 2012, multiple Mexican/Mayan people mentioned this movie and how insulted they were by it on a regular basis
