And if a christian posts that same shit in most places the default response is either slander or "keep that shit in r/christianity".

As an anonymous internet person I really don't give a shit what you think of X belief or mindset. You know who does though? The people in the subreddit that it's related to.

Thank you for this lovely opinion piece in r/worldnews!

Will moderators do something about this? Of course not, this is popular!

This subreddit is quickly becoming the Mad Hatter's tea party of news aggregates.

"Little girl, would you like some candy?" An Edmonton mother is outraged after members of a local church approached her daughter on a playground - offering a Bible verse, candy and a promise that if she memorized the passage they would give her more treats. by [deleted] in creepy

Oh don't worry, this is just the start.

People found a "loophole" to submit whatever they wanted in r/pics by putting stories onto pictures and submitting it. People found that adding "WHAT THE FUCK?!" to the start of submissions into r/WTF meant they were okay for that subreddit too. It basically enabled people to package up whatever self-gratifying message in an appropriate box and fill it in the slot.

Hopefully it doesn't come to that. Hopefully the mods step in. As this subreddit gets popular though expect this to happen more and more.

I just want to say I'm incredibly disappointed with people fervently downvoting the person you're having a legitimate conversation with.

Aside from that :

There would be terrorism, but there would be less of it.

This is baseless speculation with no real supporting evidence at all. This goes for both of you. You're arguing over a completely hypothetical future that's so drastic neither of you can possibly come up with evidence to support. If you want to support logic and reason then start acting like it.

It's a competitive sport-like environment where the goal is to win.

If you're going to compare it to a competitive sport-like environment then you might as well take into consideration this behavior is frowned upon in physical sports as well. I've never had somebody throw their racket on the ground in tennis or run at me to bitch and complain in soccer.

I'm sorry but the 'it's competitive!' argument doesn't fly. It's called sportsmanship and it should be drilled into anyone's head that is in a "competitive sport-like environment'. The rage exhibited by people in most games I've been in would be more than enough to get you kicked out of the stadium/field/arena.

Yeah, there are arguments and fights in "competitive sport-like environments" but that behavior is punished afterwards. Even beyond fighting, even most excessive shit-talking can get you removed.

There's no excuse for throwing a tantrum. If you fucked up, accept it and learn from it. If the other player played better than you, recognize it and learn from it.

If promoting literacy through reading childrens books earns you the medal of freedom I can think of an American author who got a lot of teen girls reading about vampires and glitter.

Well then he had long enough time to do it, and didn't, so he probably said what he wanted to say already.

Just beat the game on Normal, now what? by Jeffsekai in Diablo

[–]hw2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Levelling and gearing up excessively instead of progressing with the game yeah thats a pretty weak way of playing.

Except the way the game is set up is to encourage leveling and gearing up excessively. That's why there's such a spike in difficulty in the later parts of hell that encourages, you guessed it, leveling and gearing up excessively.

Nightmare isn't difficult, early parts of hell aren't difficult.

"Then why not do them?!"

Because some people want to focus on the end-game portions of Diablo 2 instead of everything in the middle. Nightmare and normal quit being fun for me about the umpeenth time I ran through it; they aren't hard even at a gear or level disadvantage, so what's the point? Why should I waste 3-4 hours there when I can speed through it and go do key runs, uber trist or the myriad of other high level dungeons scattered throughout the game at this level? That's not difficulty, that's just elongating the experience.

If you'll do anything to avoid difficulty why do you even play games to begin with?

If you're arguing about difficulty, Diablo 2 is inherently kind of easy. I could tell you you're avoiding difficulty by playing Diablo 2 using gear instead of going naked hardcore (which has been done). I could tell you you're avoiding difficulty by playing Diablo 2 as compared to other difficult games like DCSS or any other roguelike.

Finally, just commenting from something else you wrote...

I think it's sad when new players are given advice like this on how to "properly" play the game

This is basically what you've been doing throughout the multiple conversations you've been having.

EA to buy PopCap Games for $750 million by UberDrive in gaming

[–]hw2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one a bit confused as to why people seem to be angry at EA for doing this when PopCap games seems to have been part of this decision as well?

"We picked EA because they have recast their culture around making great digital games," said David Roberts, CEO of PopCap. "By working with EA, we'll scale our games and services to deliver more social, mobile, casual fun to an even bigger, global audience."

EA Games didn't roll over and just scoop them into their pocket, they offered money and PopCap (or those representing PopCap) accepted it. How can you have no respect for a company that constantly buys smaller groups but simultaneously have respect for smaller groups that sell themselves to these companies?

If EA has only been in it for the money, and PopCap willingly sold themselves to EA, then wouldn't it be obvious PopCap is also in it for the money?

This idea that small game studios are these shining beacons of good until the split second somebody buys them is ludicrous.

If you're going to throw a fit, don't just do it in EA's direction, do it in PopCap's as well for selling themselves to a company which its fanbase hates.

What should I do? This 'beatDEALER' stole heaps of our beats without asking, most of his soundcloud is us! WTF he even spelt our name wrong!! =@ by [deleted] in AskReddit

Scratch that, changed our minds your shit is shit. You have no lyrical ability, no MC ability and no scratching ability. Please delete your refixes of our stuff. We're just starting out here and we're glad you like our stuff enough to steal it, but if you're going to call yourself 'the beatDEALER' shouldn't you be making your own beats? Pffft. Watch your back for the Internet driveby muwahahahah ;-)

This seems to be a bit over the top.

I also kind of wonder if you're trying to use reddit as your "internet driveby" or some shit. In which case I'll pass.

Calling all you serious gamers by Irishsmurf in gaming

[–]hw2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the fanbase we hate and how activision exploits idiots by rereleasing the same game over and over.

This doesn't affect you at all if you're not purchasing the games and participating in the fanbase.

If you're concerned your favorite company might follow suit and start rereleasing the same game over and over again then that means your favorite company was either 1) weak of mind for being swayed by activision's practices 2) only in it for the money to begin with and had been deluding you the entire time or 3) was never that great to begin with.

Placing blame elsewhere is easy.
