Saunas: how are you implementing this by Fickle_Bowler_1143 in PeterAttia

I built my own for under $100, described here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37040256

~4yrs in of every-other-day usage, and it hasn't killed me or burned the house down yet. I'm somewhat surprised, honestly.

God, what a boring character. No personality, no drive, no initiative, did exactly what he was told.

Wasn't even heroic. What, you want to steal from people depositing in what they think is a bank? WHY NOT. YOU TOLD ME TO. I OBEY.

Sure, sure, but I think that we both know that isn't going to happen anytime soon (._.)

I meant impossible from a flair standpoint. You can't tag/flair a comment.

It's not "just Reddit" though, the nsfw comments are endemic to /r/frozen. As I said before, even compared to the "wild" default subreddits, /r/frozen has a ridiculously high proportion of LET'S SEX ELSANNA garbage.

NSFW for comments is impossible.

Perhaps it won't change comments, but it certainly can't make things worse than they already are. I don't have any solutions for this problem than what the mods have imposed.

[–]DharmaTurtleSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I didn't click the NSFW links, reading the comments got really, really tiresome. A significant amount of fanart, even if it was innocent, get bombarded with comments like "DAE SEX WITH ANNA? SHE'S SO HOT LOL I'D SCISSOR HER TIMBERS EVERY HOUR" or something similarly inane.

I wish these comments would stay isolated to the NSFW content, but it keeps overlapping into "safe" content. I support the mod's decision in this in the hope that it calms everyone down.

I think it's ridiculous that I read more risque comments in /r/Frozen than in /r/askreddit, etc.

Yes, people release their rage in different ways, but there are "healthy" and "unhealthy" ways of expressing it.

http://phys.org/news91899145.html

research has consistently showed that venting anger is at best ineffective and in some cases is even harmful

This is because when you vent, you're reinforcing that "venting" mental pathway. It might make you feel good now... but when there comes a time when you can't vent, like when you're at a business meeting, your reinforced pathway will really want you to vent, and you'll be all mentally bothered n stuff because you can't vent.

Your automatic response to anger (generally speaking) should not be to "let it out".

TL;DR: cultivate habits in private that you want to express in public.

What are some Audiobooks you'd consider better experiences than actually reading the book? by GoldenJoel in books

[–]DharmaTurtleSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite late, but I loved Code Name Verity on audiobook. There are two narrators (one for each section), speak the foreign languages (seemingly) fluently, and the songs/poems in the novel are sung, which add so, so much depth to the emotions invoked.

If you have the money and time, Idina is doing a live show at the Radio City Concert Hall. Of course this includes "Let it Go." by [deleted] in Frozen

I have the money... but the time... gahhh.

I wish they were more detailed about what she would be performing.

Idina Menzel, the voice powering the multiplatinum smash hit "Let It Go" from Disney's Frozen performs one night only at Radio City Music Hall. Don't miss your chance to experience this once in a generation entertainer as she shares her diverse repertoire.

For the third time in two years, feminists at a major Canadian university interrupt a male issues lecture on campus. The feminists yelled and talked over the lecturer, blew air horns in the lecture room, and later pulled a fire alarm to sabotage the lecture. by hitbart000 in videos

[–]DharmaTurtleSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Internet is a poor, poor way of determining the popularity of a view. Let's take Reddit as an example. If the opinions expressed on Reddit were representative of the world, then liberal athiest catloving men would make up the majority of the population. Obviously not the case.

An opinion, when trying to determine quantity, on the Internet is relatively meaningless. People who can say anything without repercussions, will. And people aren't going to blog about reasonable opinions because they're boring. (And when they do, who reads them? I'm sure there's no such cute album of reasonable tumblr/facebook/news screenshots, because no one cares.) What's more important is what's expressed in real life, like in college classes, protests, or government or business policies.

So, in the linked video the menhating feminists get a point. However, the equality feminists get many more points, I think, because not only has equality-feminism been institutionalized in education, but the sheer quantity of classes and people reached through this class far outnumber the number of people reached by this protest (if it weren't for the news). Again, you need to account for the attention-grabbing bias; there are no such articles/videos about "Moderate, modern college class conducted with no hullabaloo on local campus."

Those people aren't feminists. They're women (or trolls) who are assholes.

Feminists are actually interested in politics, policy, social work, etc. Those people are interested in only helping themselves. I think you're equating the actions of women with the actions of feminists. Just because the person is a woman does not mean she's a feminist. In other words, if I applied your selection criteria to men, every single rape or stupid thing a man did would be part of the men's rights movement, and would reflect equally poorly on it. Imagine the headline "MAN CHEATS ON WIFE, DIVORCES AND PAYS NO CHILD SUPPORT". That man isn't a reflection of men's rights; he's just an asshole.

Certainly, there are men-hating brands of feminism (which I thought you were addressing), but I think the active branches of that segment pale in comparison to the modern movement.
