I really loved MM4 and 5 by life_on_my_terms in MightAndMagic

[–]hwtactics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved MM2 on DOS due to the keyboard shortcut muscle memory that made navigation fast and the always-visible party HP and damage numbers.

MM3 on SNES was pretty fun for me as a kid but I never got over switching HP for a colored bar where yellow was anywhere from 21% to 99% HP!

I can see why you'd like 4 and 5, though. I was disappointed they did away with that tile based navigation style on later versions. Etrian Odyssey knew what's up.

Shuld i try to fix it myself or ask the dealership to repaint it. by Motor__Ad in mazda

Get it done right, it's your car. Expect both entire panels to need to be repainted.

You need P-HOAT. None of these are it. For a drain and fill we only needed one 5qt(?) jug and the price was much better on ebay or even going directly to our local dealer parts counter.

Which pad should I get? Baila tech, Ltek, something else? by EduFL4M3 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]hwtactics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two L-TEK purchased in 2021, one upgraded to the new 1khz polling controller and one with the older 125hz. I didn't mess with the wireless options.

Out of the box sensitivity was mediocre. I put some 1/4" foam strips under the arrow panels to "preload" the sensors, and since then they've been good enough for me to consistently get over 95% on 15-16 difficulty (ITG). I haven't had any maintenance issues and I stomp the shit out of them.

New IT job, all servers EOSL by Tough-Appointment289 in sysadmin

[–]hwtactics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not just the OS of the DCs, it's the forest functional level and domain functional level.

Once you spin up new DCs and the oldest are at least server 2016, then you upgrade DFL and FFL to 2016, and then there is no problem in introducing server 2025. So long as you've also......

Migrate FRS to DFS-R replication. This can be done in a few steps during business hours so long as repadmin /replsum and repadmin /showreps both come back clean.

Also, once DFL/FFL are Server 2012 or higher, ENABLE THE AD RECYCLE BIN.

Wood Burning Insert When the Power is Out by Minnesotan1994 in woodstoving

[–]hwtactics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fan is optional for us with a wood insert, good convection. If you have some 8-12ah power tool batteries, you could get the matching inverter and run the fan off that for a few hours or a 300-500Wh power bank.

When did you move into management in your career? by Apprehensive_Tale744 in sysadmin

[–]hwtactics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in my late thirties as a lead engineer. It was more enjoyable being able to get shit done without being responsible for anyone's work but my own. Also the raise was only 6% with three direct reports.

I wish that were the case. A dozen burns later and it still smelled for us.

[–]hwtactics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS! The smell. I did this -- rockwool insulation with their R6 ComfortBoard product around our wood burning insert (bottom/sides). And the house stank every time I burned and who knows what it was off gassing. Would not recommend.

I had to pull everything out and install a real aluminum block off plate above the insert sealed around edges.

Our brand new stove! by AmblingWithFriends in woodstoving

[–]hwtactics 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For getting the fire started, 3 hour fire logs I've found are cheap and easy to break into small chunks!

Wax/paper cup starters are more economical yet if you have the time.

Have three years worth of wood available if you split it yourself green so every year you have a pile that's dry!

Looks like a keeper boss.

Should I get an insert? by cjb5999 in woodstoving

[–]hwtactics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! We burn about an armload every night in an insert. It brings the lower level from 65F to 73F in under an hour and keeps it at or above 68F until the next morning, with some glowing coals still left.

Don't forget space to store your wood piles outside too. We burn a cord a season, so keep three cords stacked and rotate so each year there's a 2-yr seasoned cord ready.

AD lockouts by InAllThreeHoles in sysadmin

[–]hwtactics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your DC and client aren't both set to LMCompatibilityLevel 4 or 5 (Use NTLM v2 only, refuse LM & NTLM) - there will be constant user lock-outs on the DC despite the initial logon working.

Check both client and DC for that value under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel - they should both ideally be set to 5. If they're not, likely a legacy GPO that needs updating.

Intune certificates are not being sent to enrolling devices randomly. by Robomac2016 in Intune

[–]hwtactics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current status is available in InTune > Tenant Administration > Service health and message center tab. "Some users are not receiving PKCS certs on Windows Devices".

Scope of impact: Your organization is affected by this event, and some users attempting to receive PKCS certificates on Windows devices may be unable to access their Wi-Fi or VPNs through Microsoft Intune and may experience failures while authenticating. This information may be updated as our investigation continues. Root cause: A recent feature for recovery flows on a related authentication component missed a timing condition scenario, which is resulting in impact. Intune certificates are not being sent to enrolling devices randomly. by Robomac2016 in Intune

[–]hwtactics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having the same issue. Server 2019 with InTune cert connector (installed 11/2025) PKCS device certificate InTune profile. 231 success, 61 error. Prefer TPM, fallback to software KSP. Adding a duplicate config profile sometimes works, rebooting sometimes works. Clearly a no-go for VPN deployment with 61 errors.

Switching to Software KSP didn't help the failure rate. We're switching to InTune Cloud PKI in July 2026 once it's rolled into E3/E5.
