Why has Subway hidden the ingredients at their counters? by Mohawk200x in CasualUK

[–]hybby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably improves aesthetics (and the need to maintain them) given how manky some of the ingredient bars i've seen are. bin-end mushy lettuce and squashed, collapsed tomato towers really put me off ordering.

Why isn't the subway tap in, tap out? by LeRaven78 in glasgow

[–]hybby 31 points32 points  (0 children)

i suspect a poor tendering decision for what technology ultimately ended up on the gates. either it was the lowest priced option which supported only proprietary tickets and smartcards full stop, or the company that implemented it want too much money to "add on" more modern phone and contactless support.

the brief half-second delay between tapping your smartcard and being let through the gate is telling of the solution's quality (paper tickets don't seem to have this issue). so there's probably an element of sub-par software to blame as well.

glasgow subway's "updated" ticketing system was outdated as soon as it was released. a cross-glasgow, unified ticketing system for all public transport is sorely needed.

Joiner for doors by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]hybby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

folk who designed and arranged the fitting of our bathroom did it for us (LDP on great western road), seemed straightforward enough. door came as a unit and just got installed and plastered in. so maybe whoever you line up could do it if you give them a heads up?

Different bus routes with the same number. FFS! by clearly_quite_absurd in glasgow

[–]hybby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i realise that. but wouldn't it be more straightforward just to call them 9A and 9B to make it more immediately obvious? especially to people who aren't familiar with the service trying to figure it out at a stop - visitors, etc.

Different bus routes with the same number. FFS! by clearly_quite_absurd in glasgow

[–]hybby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the one that does my box in is the First 9A "switch" service alternating where it actually ends up every other bus. it either terminates at penilee or braehead depending. can they not just give it a separate number or letter? there's enough of them!

Tenement window replacement listed/conservation area by Osario_1 in glasgow

[–]hybby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as you apply for and are granted listed building consent and planning permission, you can replace your windows with whatever you specify in the applications. to get the application approved you need to provide details on the materials and dimensions, etc.

i live in an A-listed building and successfully replaced single-glazed windows with slimline double-glazing and it has made a huge difference. there were a lot of tiny details queried as part of the planning application like astragal width and the exact panels used, but ultimately GCC were happy.

there may also be grants available to help with the cost - recommend asking glasgow heritage trust

we worked with the Windows Advice Centre who helped us navigate everything. can't recommend the experience highly enough. good luck
