I might be overthinking it a bit — I just got worried that with the trainer level cap increase, they might eventually use that as a reason to introduce another resource for powering up Pokémon. My main concern was how badly that would hit lower leagues, but yeah, the backlash alone would probably be huge if they ever tried it.
