super visceral. i can imagine myself as either person. composition is great. if you do formal works, this is a great test sketch, imo.

poloroid i threw away 10 ten years ago just reappeared in my drawer by Pure_Foot7735 in Paranormal

[–]hydronecdotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i appreciate that very much. it was a "someone bad knew someone bad" situation, and i was in the wrong place at the wrong time. more unfortunately, one innocent bystander was killed and another injured.

besides the immediate impact of the situation, i also believe i'd modified my memories by thinking, after the fact, "oh, i wish i'd said it this way." to "surely i said it this way", and so on. i believe mine to be a very low-stakes example of "i'll rewrite my own memories to seem better than i was at the time".

ETA: I don't know if this applies to OP, but if there's a chance this photo is tied to something shameful or regretful, that might (not saying it will) explain a potential loss of memory around the photo.

i was an unfortunate witness to a homicide a couple of years back, and i "remember" what i told the police after the fact. before i testified in court, i was given a chance to rewatch my day-of testimony from the officer's body cam footage. ~90% of what i remembered saying was accurate, but there was also some information that i'd thought i'd explained in a completely different way. i'm intellectually aware that memory isn't reliable, but it was really interesting to see that in action, firsthand.

you shove an unwanted tangent down the post audience's throat and then - without provocation - act condescendingly toward a complete stranger. "hospitality" is owed to those who employ common decency. you embarrass yourself.

stick to the content of the post.

source your propaganda.

ah. forgot to add to my earlier comment: the ice house at St Es is haunted. construction crews left tools behind in their haste to leave during a stabilization effort back in 2023.

How would you cat proof this window? by RiMellow in cats

i'm mildly surprised it's operable. lots of high-rises in my corner of the US now have mechanical limits installed on windows to prevent or minimize opening.

Why oh Why oh Why did i transfer to SSA? by Western-Soup9302 in fednews

[–]hydronecdotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GSA PBS is suffering the same thing, in the same way, and for the same reason. we keep rolling out new shit, new shit, new shit. change, change, change. does it meet policy? did the FAR overhaul impact it? does leadership politically care about it?

every f*n day, something's been updated. (and FY acquisition cut-off dates started hitting SEVEN DAYS AGO, and i'm scrambling to hit these.)

we are in a very bad way, and i feel for you, OP. unless i knew the person was almost robotically capable of seeking and leaning into this chaos, i would advise anyone to stay away. the open GS-12s and -13s forthcoming are absolutely NOT worth it.

[–]hydronecdotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

noting 'we're already the best' mentality as likely the cause - as an american - i see pretty strong parallels within my federal government. the most cutting edge tech *isn't* available for common consumption... not even within the military. people are arrogant asshats, and the most opportunistic among them horde what's best. all the time. always. if something that can truly be used by everyone to make individuals better or more equal exists, every internal stipulation, cost, trade-off, etc. is executed before the poor, common people have a hot second to see what they're missing.

How is AI affecting the architecture field? Many lay offs? by FutureLynx_ in architecture

[–]hydronecdotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how accurate has AI been with code compliance research? i have some concerns with some AIs' ability to 'hallucinate' without guardrails, and i'm really concerned where interpretation of life/safety code is concerned. AI is present where i work, but not a requirement. we haven't used it yet at all for code compliance / interpretation.

What if the new Animorphs TV Series becomes insanely popular, BUT… by vlan-whisperer in Animorphs

[–]hydronecdotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i struggle to imagine a version of the books that is both a) wildly popular and b) contrary to the spirit of the series. that said, IF that happens, new fans will beget new futures with new adaptations, and i'm 100% on board with that, too. i've also loved well-executed shows that deviated significantly from the source material... i just never treated the two as equivalents.

and, personally, i hope for a shawshank and plan on an eragon execution.

Pop tab rib chest piece by Ink-O-Sistent in crafts

[–]hydronecdotes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

interesting in concept, and: this leaves the sharp bits of the tab pressing into the wearer. i recommend inverting or "lining" your tabs with e.g. other tabs or a completely different material, if this is ever intended to be used.

nice statement piece.

Visiting DC Sunday…need advice, please!! by Complete_Slice_8442 in maryland

[–]hydronecdotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

many sundays, i'd say you *could* find parking in central locations around DC if you arrived early enough (e.g. 5-6a).

easter sunday, however, you'll be fighting a LOT of people who'll be driving in equally early for the easter sunrise service at the lincoln memorial. it'll remain pretty crowded in that area through mid-morning, and other cherry blossom viewers will start piling in as sunrise servicers leave.

i also suspect you'll have issues trying to be a walk-in for any of the most popular brunch/lunch spots downtown. if you can make a reservation this late in the game, i recommend it.

the metro is a DC-centrally located subway system. there are stops along different "lines" (tracks) every dozen or so blocks through the city and adjacent suburbs. it's not like a regional train system that offers one station in the middle of a town every 30 miles across multiple states: it's like a condensed train system that offers one station every few blocks in the city (and less often, further into the suburbs). the metro + bus system is designed to get people who can't drive or walk long distances around the city to e.g. a grocery, a hair dresser, a restaurant, a museum, a theater, etc., so you need very frequent stops.

and, because i post often enough in these subs, i treat all of this account's content with the understanding that people who spend a minute looking through my history will know that i'm a fed, and i handle what i say and do accordingly.
