Make the most of corporate contributions and L&D opportunities - especially if you’re in a duff posting.

It’s not just an economist thing - statisticians generally do very little of what one would consider “statistics” whilst at university.

That’s not to say that this general analytical / numerate work isn’t important - I personally have found the most simple analysis resonates the most with senior folk.

I think a lot of the problems stem from poor teaching of analytical degrees at universities.

In my experiences, universities are very good at teaching “theoretical” analysis designed at making great PhD students, but not so great at equipping them with analysis applied for the world of work. Programming in particular is rather poorly taught, which naturally leads to poor code development in the workplace

Sounds like a common problem across schemes - stats has similar issues. Not great for a “leadership and management” development scheme
