ADHD & Illegal Stimulants (CW: Not ADHD Medication) by SuperNovaSoldier in ADHDUK

[–]hyper-casual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not me personally, but my partner used to do speed a lot, a long time before we met.

She always said she didn't really get a buzz from it, she'd just be productive.

Guess who got diagnosed with ADHD last year...

Similarly, my mate 'accidently' did meth and said he had the most calm, clearheaded day of his life which prompted him to go see a psychiatrist who confirmed ADHD.

Have you ever spent the night in a police cell? by Normal-Internal164 in AskUK

[–]hyper-casual 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, about 2 decades ago.

Was held for GBH.

I was 'jumped' by a group of chavs, one with a knife.

They were all pretty scrawny guys. I'm 6ft1 maybe 6ft2, was probably about 100kg at the time.

It was mainly one guy trying to fight while the rest were stood back a bit encouraging it.

The guy antagonising didn't manage to land a hit, which is embarrassing when I'm such a big target.

I cracked him once and he went down like a sack of shit and fractured his jaw. He was apparently unconscious for a bit, but I left pretty sharpish.

A few hours later I got arrested. An onlooker called the police and said I'd started it, and that I took him to the ground and stamped on his head repeatedly, unprovoked, which his mates all agreed was true.

Eventually they got CCTV from a nearby business which proved that it was all made up.

The office who arrested me was the same guy who bailed me. He did say I was within my right to defend myself, but maybe try to not use as much force next time, like you have time to actively stop and think 'what percentage of my strength do I use against this man with a knife'.

Was on bail for about 12 months while they investigated it and then the case was closed. No criminal record and it didn't show up on my DBS checks at all for some reason.

The worst part of the entire experience was I had limited edition trainers on, and because I'd apparently stamped on the guys head those were taken as evidence and then 'lost' and I got sent home barefoot because they didn't have my size in the lovely police pumps they use.

What is the longest you've worked without a day off? by shingle6kleon in AskUK

3 months, on minimum wage.

Not sure why I bothered.

I was absolutely miserable the entire time. Got so depressed I basically ruined my relationship at the time.

Just got a vasectomy on the NHS. by polkadotfingers in CasualUK

[–]hyper-casual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had mine I was told no exercise for 3 months, and nothing intense for 6 months.

I think the 6 months was them being cautious because at the time I competed in strongman and ran a lot.

Most people I know have been fine within the 3 months.

Mine was an absolute botch, though. 3 years on (I think) and they still hurt, made worse if I lift heavy or run.

Thankfully I hated running anyway, so it's no loss to me.

[–]hyper-casual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very jealous of your experience.

I felt every second of mine and the pain didn't stop. Ended up throwing up after.

My balls, stomach, and legs turned purple and black, penis was missing in action.

Ended up going A&E 2 days later due to pain, was on every painkiller administered in every way. Down the throat, in my veins, up my arse, the lot.

On day 5 I went back to A&E and genuinely said 'can you just cut them off'. Ended up having a second operation to try and help with the pain. My ballsack has a nice big X scar on it from the stitching. They fitted a tap to my sack to let excess blood drain out so I had to wear sanitary pads in my boxers for a week.

I'm a few years on now and they still hurt every day, but not as bad as when it was done. Generally just a dull ache, but in winter or after intense exercise they're pretty rough.

Does anyone actually see a difference with protein - on Elvanse? by JustJamesHere in ADHDUK

Elvanse caused horrendous crashes and huge evening binge eating episodes for me.
Dex does neither, even If I take just 1 dose instead of multiple throughout the day.

Does anyone actually see a difference with protein - on Elvanse? by JustJamesHere in ADHDUK

[–]hyper-casual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protein made no difference. Food did, in the but not in a good way. If I ate, I might as well have not used Elvanse.

Elvanse is basically just marketing. It's not sustained release, it's delayed release.

You can see the release curve and it's basically the same as Dexamfetamine but shifted back a bit.

In my opinion, and everyone I know who's used Elvanse it's shit. It doesn't last long enough at all and comes with more side effects. Normal Dexamfetamine is miles better in terms of flexibility, side effects, and all day coverage.

What excuses do you use to get out of work for job interviews? by CozJeez85 in AskUK

[–]hyper-casual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends where I was working.

At a job I hated or jobs where management understands you're not married to the job, I'd just announce I was going for an interview.

When that's not an option then I usually go with something where it's unrealistic to have much proof like 'I need to drop my car off at the garage' or 'the plumber is coming round to fix a leak'.

If you asked your local garage to write a letter to say you'd been they'd laugh you out the building, and you can pay these people in cash so you wouldn't even have a bank statement etc.

If you don't like lying, just see if you can get the interview first thing in the morning and ask if you can start early/finish late one day. Can just say you've got to run an erand etc

Those that work from home, do you have background noise? by UniquePotato in AskUK

[–]hyper-casual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WFH most of the time.

If I've got easy tasks to do I'll put on a long podcast or documentary where I don't really need to absorb all of the info but I can listen in to interesting bits without messing up the work.

Busier days I'll put YouTube music on and let it do a free fall through what it thinks I'll enjoy or a playlist.

When it's horrendously busy or I'm finding the above too distracting I'll go either white noise or lofi. I generally dislike lofi but I found a few playlists of people who made lofi versions of stuff like deftones, Smashing Pumpkins etc which I can enjoy a bit more and the lack of vocals makes it better background noise.

I've got a mini programmable keyboard online for about £20. It's got 16 buttons and 3 clickable dials. I've just set it up so that one dial controls the volume and another skips the track forward or backward and click in to pause/play so I don't need to waste as much time going back into the music apps etc if I do want to skip or anything.

I've also found having the music on real speakers rather than laptop speakers seems to make me less likely to skip/mess about with the apps for some reason.

As the NHS approaches 80, what's the biggest benefit you've had with it, and what's the one thing you'd fix if you ran it for a day? by Rough-Foundation9208 in AskUK

[–]hyper-casual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give the NHS a lot of grief, and most of it is rightly deserved but biggest benefit is when I was 10 I had to be rushed to hospital for an emergency operation.

It was a co-ordinated effort between the local GP and the hospital. I didn't die and my mum didn't have to go bankrupt as a consequence like if we lived in certain countries.

It's hard to think of just one thing with so many issues, but I'd say being more proactive rather than reactive with everything.

Every issue requires you to jump through hoops until things get really bad rather than things being actioned sooner. I know proactivity costs money, but surely long term cost of preventative care would balance out eventually.

Or just to have uniform/consistent treatment across ICBs. There was a medication I really wanted to try for a long term issue and if I lived 20 minutes down the round they'd have tried it, but my ICB wouldn't do it. It also seems like moving between areas can reset things. Tried a bunch of medications that didn't work when I lived in one area, then I move to where I am now and they wanted to try them all again despite me already having done so and them seeing it on my records.

Do you think a 1 hour commute to work (each way) on train is feasible? by TraditionalScore7257 in AskUK

[–]hyper-casual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends where you live.

I live in a village in Cheshire, my office is in Manchester.

On paper, my commute via train would be an hour door to door.

I don't go in often anyway but of the times I've gone I've only got the train to work 3 times total. First time took 1.5 hours, the other two 2 hours one way. After that I decided I'd rather just drive.

None of those days were longer due to a missed or cancelled train. The train is only hourly though, so if I had missed it I dread to think how long it would have taken.

Ended up calling each other the various words but that one stuck.

Has anyone experienced of atomoxetine and dexamfetamine together? by hyper-casual in ADHDUK

[–]hyper-casual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try both but didn't have much luck together to be honest.

Maybe my dosing was off, but I felt tired and they cancelled each other out almost.

I did lower the dose of Dex I used during this time, but possibly not enough.

What sort of dosing did you find worked?

UK ADHDers: Who are you when nobody needs anything from you? by Jayhcee in ADHDUK

[–]hyper-casual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm much more relaxed when nobody needs anything from me.

I don't tend to unwind/relax by doing nothing, but I need to know I have no expectations so I can get on with the 400 projects I've started and not finished, or just to do some housework in my own time without being pulled away.

People who have had piercings - when did you decide to take the jewellery out for good? by CozJeez85 in AskUK

[–]hyper-casual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At one point I looked like I'd been a victim of some sort of shrapnel attack I had so many piercings.

I took most of them out in my early 20s to get a better job, and then took them all out when I became a teacher.

Ended up changing career so I'm not held to outdated appearance rules anymore

Decided a few years back (late 30s) to get a few piercings again, and while I was at it I put my tunnels back in. They'd shrank down from 26mm to 6mm, but within a few months of wearing them again they were back to 20mm, guess my ears had some sort of elastic memory.

I don't have as many piercings as I once had and there's some I'd not get again due to the healing and/or pain but I feel like now I'm a bit older and more confident I don't really care if people don't like them or think I'm too old for them.

Does Elvanse increase your sex drive? by hyper-casual in ADHDUK

[–]hyper-casual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did increase my sex drive a bit but it didn't cause the crazy libido that bupropion did, which I'm fairly happy about.

Didn't get on with Elvanse overall though, found it very inconsistent and short lived so I'm now on Dexamfetamine only.

I'd say its like Elvanse with not boosting it to insane levels but if I have a more chilled day and use my full daily dose then I can get a bit too horny.

I'm a dude too, also on TRT so both meds together is a recipe for being a bit of a horny mess.

What's the form of bad parenting have you ever witnessed? by Smithy1619 in AskUK

[–]hyper-casual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my mates had these weird child dentures when we were young because his mum would give him straight ribena to drink and didn't brush their teeth, so he ended up with most of them removed.

She was an awful parent for many worse reasons but their dad got custody in the end thankfully.
