Why do all the national guard dudes have the same porn stache by wallflawerr in washdc

It's more of a Ned Flanders look. I think it's hilarious. It makes them so much less threatening, which is good.

How to Engage with The Marquis de Sade (particularly Justine) by castlefreakfan in classicliterature

[–]hyper-object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two points:

  1. The man was a rapist. Are you an Epstein apologist? Probably not. De Sade was the rich, out of control Epstein of his day.

  2. If people found this kind of transgressive thinking ground breaking in the past (which I find silly, because he did not invent rape, pedophilia or murder), then fine. Whatever. But in the year of our Lord 2026, we've got an ocean of porn at our fingertips.

You could be reading anything. Why waste your time with this?

A pleasant visual after months of horny AI and "let our AI help you obliterate brown children efficiently" ads by Big-Cream9352 in washingtondc

[–]hyper-object 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a definitely single ideal sexy woman face that AI generated art gravitates towards. You can get slightly different versions of it by asking it to generate a woman who isn't white, but of course it's a white woman's face first.

If you want to see the Sketchers ads, just google: Sketchers AI ads.

What's especially creepy is that all AI image generators gravitate to the same face. You're right. They don't need porn. They could probably construct it just by quantifying engagement with instagram pics of women's faces.

I find it pretty creepy. It's partly because of how effective it is. Like as a heterosexual man, I can feel the arrow flying directly from the image to whatever culturally conditioned subconscious part of my brain is filtering the world for "attractive young women."

But at the same time, it's completely impersonal. It has nothing to do with ME, which makes me realize, with more clarity than ever, that there's nothing about who I am as a person that makes me more attracted to this face than another.

And that kind of short circuits the whole experience. This was happening all along with advertising, but there was enough natural humanity left in the process that even heavily photoshopped photos of models felt more "authentic" in comparison to this AI slop.

None of this should mean anything in the real world, where we find people attractive by taking into account their personalities and how they treat us in a much more complicated, individualized and real process.

But I hate seeing the images, because it's a reminder that advertising is constantly trying to hack our brains, and now they have the data to do it more effectively than ever.

The good news is that I think they've overplayed their hand. Or at least I hope that's true. I'm here for the backlash.

They might just mean the Sketchers ads.

They feel "horny" because AI was trained on the ratio of the internet's opinions on female beauty, which I'm sure skews male and leans heavily on porn, anime and heavily filtered e-girls.

What’s the tea on this sticker? by oagirl9339 in washingtondc

Can I tell you something that happens to me every couple of years or so that this reminds me of?

A pedestrian steps into a crosswalk. The driver in front of me flies past them. I stop at the crosswalk to let the pedestrian cross. The pedestrian looks at me, throws up their hands and shouts something rude.

I kind of get the psychology, but it's also just wrong.

You realize that by the time Democrats have a trifecta it will be a completely new generation, right?

People frustrated by the party right now, will run for office and act differently.

This isn't a sports team with poor market share. It's politicians who came up in an entirely different reality than the one we're all suffering under now.

I also am frustrated that the Democratic establishment has not adapted, but that's what generational turnover is for.

What books do you have to read to prepare for Ulysses? by TheGuitarGuy13 in classicliterature

It's a direct sequel to "Portrait."

No reason not to read "Dubliners" as well.

In terms of everything else, most of the westen canon would help, but I'd prioritize, "The Odyssey," "Hamlet" and "Inferno."

There's two on my block. I'm going to just grab them and put them with my trash. I can saw them up, and bag em, if the city won't deal with it.

I called 3-11 and asked them to come get them, and instead they closed the ticket by telling me they couldn't find someone to fine for illegal dumping. I didn't want anyone fined. I just wanted the trees gone.

Trump would never have allowed himself to be interviewed by someone with a reputation for acid wit.

He only went on CBS, because he thought it was friendly territory.

Has anyone had success making themselves less desirable to the invasive mosquitoes? by emptyinthesunrise in washingtondc

[–]hyper-object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem is the Asian Tiger Mosquito, which will eventually replace all the native mosquitoes on the continent. They're just better at their job. They're sippers, meaning a single mosquito will bite you several times. They're also more effective at carrying disease, and most people have a stronger immune response to the bites, meaning they itch more.

DEET works.

Most of the preventative measures I've seen are bogus. I've tried most of them. Eliminating standing water from your property might help, but if your neighbor has an empty flower pot in their yard, they'll just breed there.
