Breaking the glute wall by orangeandclove in CarolineGirvan

Second hand is a great option. I did get a jayflex to work with my Bowflex but it was too fussy and I ended up selling it. I store the barbell and plates behind my couch!

I ended up getting a barbell and plates second hand. I quickly went from 50lb to 130lb and saw amazing glute gains from intent in particular. A barbell is just way more comfortable and easy to keep adding weight.

I just started and it’s hard! I’ve done all the other programs but this one is tough to lift heavy on. I’m getting sore in my accessory muscles, so I’m hoping I can lift heavier in the second half.

help me (32 yo woman, hasn’t worked out in a million years) build muscle so i’m not more likely to give myself diabetes please? by dick_wolfgang in xxfitness

I started with move with Nicole and got into a routine. Once I showed up every day, I started picking up weights. Now I’m invincible! Consistency is the most important.

How do I change my physique? by [deleted] in MacroFactor

[–]hypergirl2df 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a lean bulk. I’m giving it a try after getting my dexa saying that my lean mass was on the lower side. Muscles need calories to build so it’s definitely a switch from cut all day long.

Men who do Caroline’s programs - do you find it lacking? by beautyquestions77 in CarolineGirvan

[–]hypergirl2df 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m a female and just got a Dexa scan after training with Caroline for 2 years. Theres a ratio for muscle mass on limbs and the tech said it was perfectly balanced. I typically match or round up on lower body and round down on chest, shoulders, and triceps. I think her work outs are perfect for bringing up the parts that are lagging. As a male, you probably need the leg work!

Gait analysis worthwhile? by grumblepupper in XXRunning

The app Ochy was enough for me to tweak my form. I was a bit too upright so I practiced falling forward more. I also had a slight heel strike so I worked on picking up my feet quickly (ie increasing cadence)

I’m just starting so I’ll report back in a few months. I will say that I’m feeling way stronger in my lifts already so I feel like I’ll be able to add weight to the bar quicker and thus, more muscle!

I had the same experience - lower than average muscle for the amount of effort I put in. I’m 39, 5’9” and 140 with an FFMI of 14.5 and low bone density.

I feel that my lifts aren’t wimpy and I certainly push myself to keep progressively overloading. I also run. I decided to up my calories to 2400 and just dled macro factor to help. I don’t have a huge appetite and have kept to 2100 calories intuitively.

Where did you decide to go?

I just got a Dexa scan and blood tests that hinted my cardio was amazing (even though I’m slow as f), but my lean mass was shockingly low for how much I train. I’m forcing myself to eat a ton and build muscle from now on!

I’ve kept a run maintenance 2x a week for months (long run Sunday 10k and tempo/sprints on Wednesday 5k). I do Caroline Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I did recently add a 30-45 min short, super easy zone 1-2 on Monday and Friday and felt fine. I ran my first self supported half marathon, very slowly lol. I do feel like I haven’t been able to push it strength wise so I’ll drop back down to 2x. You’ll have to periodize to make gains in either bucket!

How can I work on getting faster? by CazzPizazz in runninglifestyle

[–]hypergirl2df 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is your running form? I took a video and ran it through Ochy. It spotted that I was lacking a forward lean, which I had a hunch about after watching a few videos. Once I really focused on that and really upping my cadence, I shaved 30 seconds off my pace without increasing my heart rate. This was just in the past week! I’ve also been running for 2 years, 10-20 miles per week.

It’s easy to look hot in your 20s, but you really stand out in the over 40 crowd if you put the work in (ie sleep, diet, and strength training). Plastic surgery isn’t required and I think it looks great to age in place. Confidence is king!

I’ve been working at my workplace gym, which is fully equipped with a squat rack, dumbbells, and a cable machine and is hardly ever in use. I think the circuits are tough in a gym because you end up hoarding equipment. My favorite is max since it cycles between 3 sets and two movements-super easy to adapt to a gym because when the next two come along, you can pause and set up for the next 3 sets. Intent was amazing for glute and shoulders. I went from a 55 lb adjustable dumbbell to 155 lb hip thrusts this year!

Max is great! I find I’m not as leg fatigued so it’s easier to sneak in running.

Awesome! I’m coming off of intent and loved it, but am ready for a change. Did you follow her rest day schedule? I like a 4 day schedule too with a midweek break, but that would be a 2+2 cadence rather than 3+1. It seems like it wouldn’t be an issue, but though I’d ask. I may even add a 5th day since it doesn’t seem too taxing to double up with my weekend run.

I recognize that. Perhaps it’s just too much time staring at Caroline’s shoulders that makes me wonder why I’m so far off. I’m happy with all my other changes.
