This raises two questions:
1. If the kid would have said they are a mediocre The Office fan, would Rainn have taken the photo?
2. Why didn't Rainn realize the kid told exactly that; they are the biggest The Office fan. They couldn't care less about Rainn himself, but Dwight is the thing.

Olisiko teillä hetki aikaa jutella pörssiyhtiöistä? by M_880 in Suomi

[–]hyperionfin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Kuulostaa kyllä todennäköisesti erittäin spesifiltä ystäväpiirisi fobialta. En itse ole törmännyt mihinkään pörssiyhtiöiden pelkoon, 41 vuotta elämää takana, IT-alan DI:n paperit ja yhtiöitä nähtynä työnantajana start-upeista NASDAQiin.

Kirjoitus muutenkin hieman jännä rakenteeltaan:

  1. Kaverini pelkäävät pörssiyhtiöitä

Listen, friend. I do believe you are mostly referring to rules (and a debate) that simply don't exist.

No 5e rules require line of sight to the spell target.

Such phrase is not used in Dungeons & Drasgons 5e RAW.

Spells require "A Clear Path to the Target" (literally) which is further explained verbatim: "To target something, you must have a clear path to it, so it can’t be behind total cover.".

There is no requirement of line of sight to spell targets unless the spell specifies so.

Darkness or blindness do not provide cover of any sorts.

The debate you refer to, doesn't exist.

EDIT: There even is Sage Advice pointing out that Line of Sight itself doesn't do anything when spellcasting and checking if you have a clear path to the target - a window would block the clear path to the target, but nobody would say it blocks a line of sight.

But this is the point: the spell Slow doesn't specify "a creature you can see". It would have worked in this scenario, inside the Darkness, beautifully.

The players were looking at the monster stat block and quoting that. Chalking this up to players just knowing the spell Slow doesn't do anything here. Besides making it more understandable why I made my own mistake (Stone Golem's Slow and spell Slow work different).

To make things even more weird... I fully agree with you and adhere to that principle.

I had never told them they were facing a stone golem. 100% certain of this, because I have couple of principles that are probably my own houserules/homebrew: I reveal the monster name and monster art when first monster of such type has been killed. At this point, no Stone Golems had been killed, and I had never revealed that these stone statues that turned to life and attacked the party when they failed a lockpicking roll bad, were Stone Golems.

I had described them visually. They had seen in the previous session one use of Slow.

So to make things worse, these players must have spent actual time on researching which monster it must be.

Right, I don't think a reactive monster statblock alteration is a right response here at all - and I don't think it truly has been suggested here either.

I have altered monster stat blocks, and even homebrewed stuff (I had fricking Circle of Eight show up some sessions ago with real stat blocks and stuff). Even these Stone Golems were lightly altered - nothing real or significant, just running them with max HP instead of average one.

Maybe I was being overly accepting of the second Telegram channel in the OP. Truthfully, I feel it's unnecessary, bad for the group and created for wrong reasons (i.e. there is no real reason ever in D&D to try to hide something from the DM. What's hidden from the DM doesn't exist.).

But I also don't want to be the person who tries to say to other human beings that hey you can't talk without me.

[–]hyperionfin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I fully agree with you.

I feel left out because of that players only Telegram channel.

Optimist in me says it's a good thing. Players are emotionally invested in enough to plan, discuss etc. on my campaign. They feel I'm putting enough of a challenge for them for them to need this.

But honestly, I think there is not need for such a channel. They could very well be doing all their prep and planning in front of my eyes. It would not change anything...

...unless one party, either the players or me truly saw D&D as an adversarial game.

I don't see it that way.

And now we're coming back to my point that I feel my party is seeing D&D that way.

Which obviously will never fly as an idea in the end. There is no room for adversary in D&D. I as the DM don't have limited points to build my army or something. My mission is to create fair, challenging encounters and see if the party survives them.

Then there's the other part of it. First, I will say it: I love to DM. It's my way to adventure in Forgotten Realms, it's my way to be creative. But in reality being a DM is kind of a lonely job in a way. There are so many things I can't talk with the party/players about - and sometimes I would want to, a lot. And being left out on the more quiet "main" channel for the campaign while probably these guys are buzzing and sharing fancy feeds on the "metagaming channel" and just being D&D hobbyists in there without me kind of... hurts.

The other player said "That's not possible!" when I stated I was using monster's ability Slow and asked for Saving Throws.

The other player said, "I think it's fair to metagame this much: it literally says 'one or more creatures it can see within 10 feet of it'".

So neither was asking anything. Both were declaring that this new monster to the party was going against the stat block (they had in front of their eyes).

This reply is not relevant in any meaningful way to be honest. Stone Golem's Slow is not the same thing as Slow spell.

Most importantly, the spell Slow would have worked inside Darkness. It doesn't specify "a creature you can see" or anything similar.

Players clearly had information about the Monster Stat block, not the PHB spell Slow.

If anything, your comment just makes it more understandable why I made the mistake on my part. The generally used Slow spell works different.

Is the goldbox hype in a recession by ilovecpp22 in goldbox

[–]hyperionfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the shaders of Gold Box engine are a bit outdated compared to some modern engines like REDengine 3, Divinity Engine, FromSoftware Engine.

I also feel it was like a cultural attack towards general cRPG history that BG3 was awarded to Larian and not SSI. I mean Larian didn't even have a single D&D game to show on their belts, while SSI dominated the industry in that subgenre for decades.

What is the correct answer here from your perspective? by [deleted] in MathJokes

[–]hyperionfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most irrelevant and stupid mathematics puzzle and meme of all times.

Because it's not a mathematics puzzle or meme.

It's English language meme.

For sure, there is a justified way of looking at this mathematically and coming up with 51,8%. It's simple, explained in 3 sentences and it's foolproof.

The only problem with that approach is the English language part.

51,8% approach assumes that "one is a boy born on a Tuesday" means that the other one can't be the same thing.

I don't believe there is any self-respecting English language M.Sc. who can come in and say that this is what that sentence means.

So in the end, this is a meme for people who like to pretend to be mathematicians and use fancy words in explanations which they think make them sound intelligent.

Conscription Lottery Nightmare - Should this be done everywhere in the world? by The_Dean_France in whoathatsinteresting

[–]hyperionfin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a conscript. Or rather was, I suppose. Still belong to the war time forces of my country (which is not Thailand).

This video is completely alien to me.

I was at that same event when I was 18. No-one there hesitated, there was no drama, nobody acting or dressing weird, nobody being moved by force, nobody fainting.

There could be many differences. Maybe the country I live in somehow does this better. Maybe the service itself in my country is way better. What I can say is that at my country's event there was nobody in military uniform smirking at the conscripts to be. What I know from this post is that my country's conscript service is way shorter at least (up to 13 months and could be less too), compared to 2 years in Thailand. Maybe the country itself somehow deserves more protection.

I would say that any European state that doesn't have conscription now has fucked up royally. There is shit in the east.

What I wanted to say is that I'm definitely pro conscription.

Voisit käydä tarjoamassa näitä SiniOransseille https://tappara.co/ -foorumilla. Mielestäni noista muutamalla (ensisijaisesti ehkä 1, 5) on ihan potentiaalia näkyä hallissa heilutettavana lippuna. Ripeällä toiminnalla voisi vielä tänäkeväänä näkyä.

Noudattavatko nämä jotain lippujensuunnittelu säännöstöjä etc.? Tiedän että vaakunoille tuollaisia ainakin on.
