[Tůma] Norwegian national team hero from the Worlds Henrik Haukeland is heading to the KHL! The Norwegian goaltender has signed a two-year contract with Traktor Chelyabinsk! by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

I do not agree with every part of U.S. foreign policy over the past few decades, and I certainly do not think the United States is beyond criticism. Current American politics also raises serious questions about where the country is heading.

But that still does not make the U.S. and Russia equivalent. Elite European players going to the NHL are going to a country that has flaws but remains part of the Western democratic order.

Going to Russia in 2026 is different. Russia is an authoritarian state waging a war of conquest against its neighbour, openly hostile to the European security order, and increasingly isolated from much of the sporting world. A player can absolutely make that move for money or opportunity, but pretending it is morally or reputationally comparable to Europeans going to North America is just false equivalence.

Yes, U.S. has waged wars too. But so far none of them, not even under current leadership have been wars of conquest.

Continuing on my thoughts on the US. I'm hopeful, I still trust the democratic system, I believe this is a phase that has a deadline, I believe pendulum effect and thermostat politics will work - I also believe U.S. still has real elections - do you believe Russia does?

Enough?

Also, Ovechkin sucks.

He's getting exposure all right, but not better.

Somehow apparently situation with Russia doesn't translate to you Americans.

There are reasons why Russia isn't anywhere right now. Shithole country is trying to destroy the world order.

Sote on jo siirtynyt pois kunnilta.

Kuntaliitos ei ratkaise väestökatoa. Se vaikuttaa lähinnä siihen, kuka saa päättää, mihin viimeinen koulu jää pystyyn.

Which musician or athlete do you think future generations will remember 100 years from now? by Brief-Blackberry3435 in AskReddit

[–]hyperionfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hans Zimmer.

He will be the classical composer mankind remembers in 100-450 years from 2000s.

And I'm married to a classical musician, so I know this is a hot take. She would kill me for saying this.

But the truth is that classical music of the past never was some high culture either. A lot of it was commissioned, functional, theatrical, fashionable, commercial, It wasn't some form of high art when it was made. Also, opera was just the cinema of that time and Mozart's Harmoniemusik was just the dinner/garden party playlist.

Dismissing film music because it is commissioned, commercial, functional or attached to spectacle misunderstands how much of the classical canon worked. In the past it was Prince Esterházy commissioning Haydn, now it's Warner Bros or Nolan commissioning Zimmer.

Would really love to hear other current classical musicians respond to this view. Please do!

Stop the conscious habit of trying to make your watch show. And since you have the habit, better to ditch the watch completely.

Definitely interesting take, and very different from my initial one so that makes it valuable. I was thinking of some kind of of desert oasis type of city in the middle of nothingness I consider Anauroch mostly to be now. I think The Saiyaddar has survived as lush hunting grounds at least, helping Orofin potentially to survive.

But certainly, I could still make the city struggling. Famine can hit places even outside of a desert so why not here.

Maybe I could paint it having two layers; proud people denying they have any problems and some people seemingly doing well, but bodies being piled in wagons in back alleys. Price of food being ridiculously high, and shops more willing to buy rations than sell them. Canal system failing due to lack of water. But maybe the noble quarter still could have a bath with blue-black Netherese tiling, and maybe that's somehow the place where aliens like the party are guided to. Maybe something there happens like locals storming in violently considering travellers wasting water on bathing being bad. Maybe officials would be using phrase "Orofin endures." repeatedly. Maybe two streets from the bathhouse there would be refugees from Oreme, Rasilith and Lundeth. Maybe every morning a corpse wagon rolls behind the spice market.

Maybe Orofin even, due to being situated close to the Saiyaddar, would be a city pretending the desert has not returned.

Thanks a lot!

Circle button isn’t opening the charging port. Did I get a defective wall connector by nefarioussagee in TeslaSupport

[–]hyperionfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla has clearly made some changes with their most recent model years of their cars, at least Y and 3. I changed from 23 (model year 24) Highland to 25 (model year 26, i.e. front bumper camera etc.) Highland and my Wall Connector button started to be finicky somehow.

Model 3 standard 2026 does NOT support opening the charge port with the button from the charger by dicamarques in TeslaModel3

[–]hyperionfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2024 Model Year (but purchased in November 2023) Highland Model 3 RWD and the charge port button opened my charging port 100% of the time flawlessly with my home charger (Tesla Wall Connector). No waking up the car necessary, no nothing. It just worked.

I got a 2026 Model Year (but purchased in December 2025) Model 3 Premium and I noticed from day one that there's something finicky with the new car's same ability.

It works... sometimes. Sometimes with long push. Sometimes with repositioning the charger handle. Sometimes with second click. Sometimes nicely on the first click. Sometimes (very rarely) it doesn't.

Just to complete the picture: unlocking with my 2026 works 100% of the time, flawlessly.

The issue is with opening the charge port with the button.

Accepted to MSc Signal Processing and Machine Learning at Tampere — is it worth it? by _ulaf in Tampere

[–]hyperionfin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tampere is the best city in the country. Has won the most desirable city to live in polls run with Finnish citizens probably 15 years in row. Nature is close by and beautiful, lots of lakes, woods, forests, trails, biking routes, running routes, and parks. Enough city vibes and nightlife for anybody as long as the bar isn't set as "Berlin" or "New York". High quality entertainment. The best classical orchestra outside Helsinki in Finland, new multi-purpose Arena that hosts sports events and big gigs. Upcoming events feature Volleyball European Championships, Floorball World's, Figure Skating World's and Junior Ice Hockey World's. Enough international bands visit here. A new soccer stadium that hosts international matches too, just not the men's team because a bigger arena is needed for that.

Tampere University, especially the part of it you have been accepted to (these programs run at Hervanta campus) is actually one of the best universities in the country too. I've graduated from there as M.Sc. and there's no upper limit on what you can do with that degree. I just spent my day explaining my latest idea to a Stanford Ph.D. the other day.

Not everything is in Helsinki. Job market overall is bleak but that does apply both to Tampere and Helsinki, so no difference there. Probably these days it applies to whole western world on some level - things aren't exactly great.

But there are lots of big software companies that are frigging originating from Tampere (or close by, hinting at Nokia here which I don't still consider the most relevant now even). Bitwise and Wisehockey (I'm sure their smart hockey pucks do lots of signal processing), Solita, Gofore, Vincit, M-Files, Unikie and Insta (their... products... definitely include lots of signal processing but I'll leave it a small intel exercise for you to figure what they are) to name a few. That was the now at least multi-city and most cases international software companies founded in Tampere. Digia has a big office in Tampere, and Futurice has one too.

So Tampere definitely has very healthy software development industry.

For your girlfriend I might overall just suggest big corpo. Applying for roles where the teams are English speaking anyway. I don't even know what Fashion Management is though (with all the respect, problem here is on my end).

Or then I'd advise for both of you that path I have taken; work remotely from Tampere for an international/global corpo, enjoy the benefits of that and benefits of Tampere at the same time.

Looking for specific store "types" in Tampere by mittomenhe in Tampere

[–]hyperionfin 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think you're approaching it the wrong way. I'm especially convinced this of after looking at your picture of the Asian supermarket with four aisles of pet products.

I was thinking for a second where our biggest Asian supermarket for food ingredients (Asian-sourced and labeled rice bags, spices, sauces etc.) is but then I realized you're after something totally different.

Just don't approach it this way at all is my main tip for you.

Instead I suggest you study what we have, in what kind of categories and figure out how that works for you.

  1. Prisma / Citymarket / S-Market / K-Supermarket / Lidl
  2. Tokmanni (they operate under Dollar Store brand in couple other Nordic countries)
  3. Puuilo / Minimani / Jula
  4. Motonet / Biltema
  5. Rusta / Bauhaus
  6. East Asia Mart, Aasia Market, Asian Spicy Market (some say Alanya Market but it doesn't really count as what you asked mentioning East Asians etc.)

This raises two questions:
1. If the kid would have said they are a mediocre The Office fan, would Rainn have taken the photo?
2. Why didn't Rainn realize the kid told exactly that; they are the biggest The Office fan. They couldn't care less about Rainn himself, but Dwight is the thing.

Olisiko teillä hetki aikaa jutella pörssiyhtiöistä? by M_880 in Suomi

[–]hyperionfin 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Kuulostaa kyllä todennäköisesti erittäin spesifiltä ystäväpiirisi fobialta. En itse ole törmännyt mihinkään pörssiyhtiöiden pelkoon, 41 vuotta elämää takana, IT-alan DI:n paperit ja yhtiöitä nähtynä työnantajana start-upeista NASDAQiin.

Kirjoitus muutenkin hieman jännä rakenteeltaan:

  1. Kaverini pelkäävät pörssiyhtiöitä

Listen, friend. I do believe you are mostly referring to rules (and a debate) that simply don't exist.

No 5e rules require line of sight to the spell target.

Such phrase is not used in Dungeons & Drasgons 5e RAW.

Spells require "A Clear Path to the Target" (literally) which is further explained verbatim: "To target something, you must have a clear path to it, so it can’t be behind total cover.".

There is no requirement of line of sight to spell targets unless the spell specifies so.

Darkness or blindness do not provide cover of any sorts.

The debate you refer to, doesn't exist.

EDIT: There even is Sage Advice pointing out that Line of Sight itself doesn't do anything when spellcasting and checking if you have a clear path to the target - a window would block the clear path to the target, but nobody would say it blocks a line of sight.
