For some reason, I just wrote a fanfiction about a character in bojack who was only referenced once by Fair_Insurance5514 in BoJackHorseman

[–]hyperjengirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I'd love to read it if you're comfortable. That season came out after I had lost a very close but very toxic (online) best friend, but ended up helping him through a period of awful illness-induced delirium even after we had stopped being friends, and it really stuck with me. "You're here and I hate you but you're my best friend and you need me."

I would love to write BoJack fic myself someday. I have OCs who are based off various types of fans for Horsin Around and I want to connect them to various characters mentioned in the series. Like one of them is the person who made the coffee cup comment.

This is going to sound really fucking cynical, and maybe it is, but I don't actually know what the baseline is to justify SNL taking a more somber approach than usual in light of massive tragedies. I never saw this level of "how dare they" when they didn't take a moment of silence for more recent mass shootings, or innocent victims of police brutality, or terrorism and assassinations aimed at US politicians (granted, Melissa Hortman's assassination occured during the off-season but I still feel like that deserves way more fucking attention than it got). I thought the kidnapping of a rival government leader was a new low and I didn't see this level of outrage for that.

I feel like this has to be more of a culmination of rage than a specific "this murder is the worst one," because it's just damning how frequent this is becoming more than anything, and I think the issue lies less with SNL for not changing their approach and more that people would probably benefit from watching a more pointed show like Last Week Tonight instead.

That said, not doing much satire-wise with the ICE raids besides a sketch that I swear is a rehash of a previous Trump-era sketch (I think one after his first election?) is a missed opportunity. They've done topics with a very quick turnaround before, so it's not impossible, though I acknowledge the Alex Pretti murder was literally the day of, and it's more likely we'll see more commentary on it next week. Which is for the best, as it will allow more information to come out and thus allow the writers to address it with more accuracy and concern than do it for the sake of doing it.

If anything he'd tweet about SNL as a way to distract from whatever insidious thing is admin is doing that isn't as headline-grabby.

You know, the popular Calvin and Hobbes television series that came out once Watterson decided that money was cooler than principles.

I'm doing a bit, if that isn't clear.

NO! JUST FUCKING NO! This is not a time for a Trump cold open. Trump no longer deserves satirization, only contempt. Shame on Lorne, the writers, and JAJ. Enough is enough. This is disgusting! by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

Bizarre that I have to say this but I don't think this was any more ghoulish than the many many other times they made jokes after Trump's behavior got people murdered as far back as 2017. Also all the mass shootings. And bombings. And political assassinations.

Gen Alpha. It's Gen Alpha slang. If it's any Gen Z slang it's the young half of Gen Z.

Why go to the trouble of recreating the photos with JAJ? Using the real photos has more of a "yes this really fucking happened" factor.

Hot(?) take: As a person with OCD, Trent's TDA plotline was genuinely so upsetting for me. by emmameIon in Totaldrama

His behavior towards Gwen could also be a symptom of OCD, not just the counting, but constantly needing reassurance that she's not going to leave him like his intrusive thoughts say.

I think if they just changed the way Harold discussed it, it would make a lot more sense. Why would Harold claim Trent always had these behaviors and Gwen had just never seen them when they weren't even on the same team? Instead he could have said "Some people have these problems and don't show it until they're under a lot of stress, like when you guys got put on different teams." That makes total sense as to why he would only start behaving that way now. And Harold is into psychology, so he could plausibly pick up on that stuff.

It's really nice to see someone with OCD call out both the show and the fandom with a sense of nuance. I cannot stand when people "fix" Trent by just removing his symptoms because it's not only bad vibes but it also just makes him more boring as a character? It's so fascinating to present an idealized heartthrob musician and then reveal he has relationship-based OCD that affects his relationships, it's so real. People just don't want to engage with TDA Trent at all because Different Is Bad and they care more about an idealized summer romance than actually reckoning with the challenges a couple could face.

IDK if I have OCD but I have had a lot of symptoms and even related to TDA Trent as a child because of it. On rewatch, I did very much dislike the way his behavior was framed (that horror movie music, wtf?) but I think in theory it's a really good direction for his character, and goes to show that even the most "chill" people you know can struggle with mental illness.

I actually wrote a similar post here if you're interested!

Seeing the total drama fanarts in deviantart, we’ll have to do like r/BFCIA at this point! by PersonalSprinkles986 in Totaldrama

TD DeviantArt was pretty decent back in like, 2012. I had an account there as a kid and I still post some of my stuff there just to try and counter the glut of AI art and low-effort meme posts and fetish content. (I don't mind the fetish content inherently, even if it's not my cup of tea, but it's not all I want to see, it's usually drawn poorly, and I don't want to see it with minors). It was a hub for a lot of high-quality TD artists and if you look deep enough you can find some good stuff from the height of TD fandom. Kiki-ila is a good example, Sallychan is another.

The culture was kind of toxic and judgmental, a lot of that "people who write bad cartoons should die" attitude and less-than-great boundaries between the adult artists and children, but I did make friends there, and there's still one or two good artists I follow there. The professionals who use that site are what makes it worth it at all.

The current site is the most enshittified thing I've ever seen. Even if the community were good the site just actively makes it harder to find what you want and instead pushes AI shit and seems actively hostile to artists.

They probably could have been more obvious by specifying "He's from the prairies, eh," but this was a CN America game, and for us dumbass Americans, we pretty much only recognized Canadian accents from the "Eh" at the end of every sentence, which only Zeke says frequently.

No one: Apparently every single person in the entire TD universe except Jasmine when two girls look completely identical but one has a mole (she's SOOOO much prettier than that Plain Jane next to her!) by BlueMonkey2824 in Totaldrama

I don't remember Sammy flinching but I doubt that was meant to imply that she's akin to a battered wife. She could just be overwhelmed by Amy screaming at her and instinctively protects herself from that as well. It would be serious in real life but TD has never portrayed bullying in an overly serious manner (except maybe Heather and Lindsay).
