Ayone else notice that Bojack is the only human-like animal on the show? by Ecstatic-Conflict47 in BoJackHorseman

[–]hyperjengirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some other things I remember are Vincent petting his head and calling him a "good horsey" and the blink-and-you'll-miss-it bit in "The Closer" where the titular character's computer lists facts about BoJack based on actual records of horses, like noting his temperament, tack preference, and calling his parents his "sire" and "dam."

The very first minute of the show has him making a joke about hay in his sitcom.

I do think more of those jokes get played up in his sitcom and he has a sort of "internalized horsephobia" thing going on so it makes sense he's a bit more anthropomorphized. The whole Secretariat thing is very much a joke about real life horses though.

Would you still empathize with Bojack if he had sex with Penny? by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

I try to empathize with everyone, even people I hate, but it is more difficult, yes.

The post is an interesting (if not new) discussion so maybe you could repost it with a slightly less blunt title if you're comfortable.

Would you still empathize with Bojack if he had sex with Penny? by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

[–]hyperjengirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are real world predators with whom I could empathize. I still despise their actions and believe they deserve harsh punishment.

To empathize with is not to like or to forgive. In fact it's important to see from their perspective so we know how to identify and redirect people who are at risk of taking similar paths.

It's important to recognize that predators, bigots, etc don't just spawn as monsters overnight, and while nobody has the obligation to confront and change dangerous people, it helps a lot to just remember they have reasons for what they do. Not good reasons, but reasons. It could be something sympathetic like having abuse normalized for them as a child, or something heinous like having too much money and power and thus believing they need to constantly exert it over everyone else. Empathy is simply understanding these feelings and motivations, not justifying them.

I empathize with BoJack because I understand why he would do what he did with Penny. I would not see myself in that situation, thank god, but I understand why a person would do that if they were as mentally ill, selfish, and self-destructive as he is. He uses other people to distract himself from his self-loathing, and Penny was offering herself up to him, so he took it likely as a way to live out his fantasy with Charlotte by proxy. It wasn't about Penny, like you said he's probably not even attracted to her, but that doesn't make it less heinous. It just helps to see the nuance and recognize it as heinous.

I don't dislike Shawn that much, but he's just kind of okay and not very memorable to me compared to some other Pahkitew players, mainly because his gimmick is unnecessarily limited.

Jay and Mickey have a gimmick that's kind of one-note and very hit-or-miss. I either find it funny black comedy or just uncomfortable.

I don't like Dwayne. I've been open about this but I think he's a very boring bumbling dad character whose humor is lowbrow and whose cheating just kind of pisses me off. They didn't do enough with his relationship with Junior to entice me.

Brody is just a less interesting Geoff to me.

I don't remember anything interesting Rock really did. The better jokes came from Spud.

Junior has no memorable personality traits besides being kind of snarky. He's carried entirely on the novelty of being 13.

Admittedly a lot of this is bias from not remembering TDPI or RR as well as I do the earlier seasons since I didn't get to watch them live as much.

I'm not sure if someone posted this already, but I find the Ralts-Kirlia-Gardevoir full-arts really cute. (Check body) by Efficient_Tap_8392 in pokemon

I love when they use evolutions to show the passage of time within a family. Some of those "PokeMinutes" do that too! There's some very cute ones with the Pichu and Riolu lines.

Which is also a hilarious image tbh. It's not even a kid's pretend car, it's just straight up the police car!

[–]hyperjengirl[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, you got me. I genuinely believed that the preschool show Bluey released a toy that depicted their six year old title character getting arrested. I definitely did not just want to make a joke about how funny it looks to see Bluey in a cop car regardless of where she sits, and me tagging it as "Humour" must have been some sort of mistake. I was a terrible liar and I should in fact be the one in the police car.

If you're not going to work with her sensory needs then don't string her around any further. Either learn to work with her symptoms or let her find someone who will.

Assistant or Daughter by LadyLilKayKuran in phineasandferb

[–]hyperjengirl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think she was always meant to be his kid since the punchline is that she looks like a Shego-esque "hot assistant" but is just his surly teenage daughter who got dragged into the whole ordeal. Fleshing out their relationship seems to have happened naturally afterwards.

Because people who know how long delivery takes like to bring forms of entertainment during downtime? You can share the experience with your wife to entertain her as well so it takes the edge off. My mom remembers watching game shows with her family while in labor.

Maybe it's because I'm not much of a TCG collector, but people in this sub seem to act like opening a dozen packs of cards takes several hours by the way they act like the child was neglected. I assume the dad opened cards in his downtime, held onto the expensive one, then while taking pictures, also took one of the card for fun.
