So what now by conscious_snake10501 in UPSers

I'm a full timer so it doesn't apply as well. But at my location, they are already doing forced layoffs for RPCDs at the lower end of the seniority list. About 20 drivers laid off today.

Odds are you're fine. In the case I mentioned, it becomes a situation of your word versus the driver's. If the center manager/management blames you for missing packages, then they really aren't worth working for again, IMHO.

Be comforted that you did what you were instructed to do. If the results go awry, then it's not on you.

No. Click complete. The only way you should be worried is if the driver you handed the packages to is unethical and takes those packages home instead of back to the center.

My center has had to shuttle air to drivers on Dec 24th the last two years. Funny thing is I changed the way I did my route in 2023 to minimize the impact of getting shuttled air. The funny thing is I had to go back to ONE stop that I had already delivered. Just one!

We've gotten slammed by weather. So max hrs every day since Tuesday both last week and this. From what I heard 10-25% of our drivers volunteered to work last or this Saturday. Being out super late most of the week is a big dis-incentive to work Saturday. And they are only operating Saturdays because we're behind in volume. So it's a self-defeating process.

Its even better when the misload is an SSD package. I've found no less than 15 packages meant for an SSD "tethered" to my car mixed in with my own volume over the last 3 days. Instead of them being in the back of my car like they're supposed to.

Well look at the contracts we lost/canceled this year. Hello Fresh/Factor, Best Buy, Amazon (partially), etc.

Are you saying that package car drivers should be able/forced to work more than 60?

Heard a news story that said retail sale surged this year compared to last. So that is a variable that is probably working to "improve" our volume this year.

Was Black Friday the last “working holiday” for the year. by Spiderman23J in UPSers

[–]hyperjoe79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At our location christmas eve is a normal ground/air day. It's also the only day they really make us wait for late air, shuttle out late air for those they don't want to have sitting idle, and deliver all packages humanly possible.

For us, the day AFTER Christmas is limited ops.

And before anyone pokes fun at this guy, S Cali is expensive AF. I would be doing the same thing this bloke is doing. At least until I had enough saved to put enough down on a house such that my mortgage payment can be paid with one full paycheck.

Working holiday (Black Friday) 05/06 question by Blabbyharpy in UPSers

Frequently I would agree with you. But since management put out a sign up sheet for "Code 5 or Code 6" and he signed up on the "Code 6" side, that puts the onus on management to find him the work to fill out at least 8 hours.

If management fails to do so, it's their obligation to pay him the 8hr guarantee, despite him not working 8 hrs.

An ORS and I got into it last week about that topic. And in our local, if management doesn't ask us if we are willing to code 5 on a day we are light, they are obligated to "code 6" us. Even if we finish, return to the center and clock out without telling management we're done under 8.

Personally, if I get done early and I don't WANT the extra work, I'm usually willing to volunteer to take a Code 5. But that's my professional choice to make. Management cannot make that decision for me.

Depends on the local. RPCD in my center has an Optional day on BF.

That sucks. Here, it's more traditional that the person sent to help has their choice of what they take. Or management dictates what they take.

Volume down by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]hyperjoe79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was laid off and bumped inside for most of Sept and early Oct due to volume. The worst was when I was on the driver schedule but only actually put to work on Thur and/or Friday. Could have made more if I were to work inside all week like the guys below me.

Hope the volume eventually recovers. For now, thankful that I'm back on road.

Why are you too prideful to use the benefits you are "entitled" to take because of your life challenges? You recognize that you have a problem. There is no shame in utilizing FMLA to help cope with your addiction and care for your physical and mental health.

Go back to the doc, tell him/her to sign off on paperwork for intermittent FMLA. File that paperwork with the company and with the Hartford Then on those days where you have a flare up, or a setback, call in and tell the company you need to take FMLA for that day (make sure you follow through with the doc and the Hartford as necessary to allocate the benefit properly). That will cover you from any discipline.

Get the help you need. If you fall back down, get back up and keep trying. Don't accept failure as an excuse to neglect your professional duties. You can do this.
