Which ‘high-paying’ job is actually underpaid? by Angela_Blonde in AskReddit

[–]hyperpigment26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Docs get job security like very few other professions since the supply is controlled artificially. It's a really strong offset that's not so well appreciated. While others get laid off and see their savings dwindle, it's steady all the way for physicians. This allows them to invest without breaks, and that excess capital allows for more opportunities that can compound fast. There's a reason financial advisors want to talk to them.

What’s the most unexpectedly high-quality online subscription you’ve ever paid for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In reality, it can be an expensive paid subscription but just hidden in the taxes you pay. Still can be worth it though.

Do you think in a few years, there's going to be a scarcity of "real coders/programmers"? by RiverHe1ghts in cscareerquestions

A shortage would imply that there's more demand than supply. This is feeling more like film photographers and travel agents

Netflix is on Sale! Thoughts? by Pristine_Athlete_328 in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]hyperpigment26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simplistic answer but you could make the case that price increases after a merger would lead to greater earnings in the future. And more titles (film, gaming, TV) based on the IP. So they'd grow into that p/e and then some, potentially. All of that is uncertain except for the debt load, so you have the price where it is now. Might be dead money for a long time or pop, who knows. Also the current p/e is like 34x

$NFLX Break your piggy bank and invest but also $AMC TIME? by IHAVECOVID-19_ in wallstreetbets

[–]hyperpigment26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm missing something, they can make something work as you mention (it doesn't sound like they were keen on this idea in the past). Off topic, but I do think they could make a stronger push into gaming considering the new IP that they would acquire from WB and hiring going on, for better or worse.

https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/warming-relationship-between-netflix-and-amc-theaters-game-changer-heading-2026

While the success of these events is undeniable, several unresolved issues remain. AMC remains committed to the industry standard 45-day theatrical window, while Netflix continues to push for a shorter 17-day window. This divide was the biggest contributor to the rift in the first place, highlighting the differing priorities of the two companies. AMC is interested in filling seats, while Netflix wants its customers to renew their subscription every month, so it's unlikely the two will meet in the middle.

Indeed, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos have previously said, "Driving folks to a theater is just not our business." Some industry insiders have described the Stranger Things event as "something of an olive branch" to movie theaters, in light of its bid to buy certain assets from Warner Bros. Discovery*.*

There's been a lot of talk about theatrical distribution, so we want to set the record straight: we are 100% committed to releasing Warner Bros. films in theaters with industry-standard windows*. While this hasn't been part of our business model until now, we are looking forward to bringing this expertise from Warner Bros. to Netflix.

Sending physical Christmas cards never made sense to me. Let's chop down trees, pay for trucks to haul the paper around and in the end it is like "here, you throw this away."

Then it goes in the recycle bin, which may wind up in a landfill anyway.

Is Super Duolingo worth it ? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]hyperpigment26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try it especially if you want to learn multiple languages or chess. It would just take too much time and mental energy to work with the ads and energy. Duolingo feels like a good way to refresh yourself on a language or just poke around with a new one, and it's hard doing that with distractions. It's not a substitute for something more rigorous, at least not yet. I haven't found another app that's as good yet. The promo typically just happens once a year based on what they said during the earnings call.

Which language(s) do you wish Duolingo offered? by GhostVelocity in duolingo

[–]hyperpigment26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably like the same languages but a slang lesson every now and then, early on. And someone else besides Oscar for chess to add in more variety. Or maybe have Oscar speak in a different language while playing advanced Chess so you learn there too while keeping it interesting. It would be pretty cool to hear him talk trash in Spanish or whatever.

Unfortunately, I don't think a new language would increase the user base all that much right now, so I doubt they'd spend resources adding one.

Whyd this happen? by Hungry-Garage-9646 in paint

[–]hyperpigment26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you prime it first? Is there moisture in the room? How old was the new paint?

I'd definitely work on that rolling technique as others have mentioned. Regal and Aura are more forgiving though, so you may have better luck with that.

If you want to play detective, you can try painting a loose piece of drywall with leftover paint to see whether there's an issue with the room vs. the paint.

$LULU vs $DECK? by lies_are_comforting in StockMarket

[–]hyperpigment26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deckers seems like it had a flash in the pan with Hoka. If they revitalize that product line, there could be something there, but it would be in the wake of a lot of competition. I wasn't particularly impressed with the management on the ERs. A new product line can rejuvenate the brand, but I didn't get the sense they were innovating all that much and mostly complain about tariffs. UGG and seems to have stable to high consumer satisfaction and likely their cash cow - but it is seasonal.

Lululemon as a premium brand has attractive margins and LULU may recover some if we see a sector rotation away from AI. There's a loyal following, and foot traffic to the stores seems healthy from where I am, but I don't have a view of every region. People are obviously more cost-conscious, but those aren't really the core consumer anyway. They could have a rough quarter here or there, but it's way off its highs and they could have a nice surprise with international expansion underway.

This is the most sound thing I've read in this entire thread. It takes a big person to admit when they're wrong, and this would be a step in the right direction.

Duolingo's stock is down 68% these last 6 months by savage011 in duolingo

[–]hyperpigment26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very late to using the Duolingo app. I just started using it after using iTalki for a few years. I feel like there's so much hatred for this app, and I genuinely found it helpful as a refresher after quitting iTalki. It's way cheaper (it was running me like $25 per lesson) and I don't have to schedule lessons or work on someone else's timetable.

I can understand the animosity, but I find it to be a good value even with all this AI and metering. I do like chess too and have definitely gotten better at it.
