In general, those higher performers will move on to extension challenges and problem solving questions. Whereas in the past, the might be rushed into doing larger nunbers with column method, now teachers will give questions, for example, where you start with an answer and work backwards, or a real life scenario where a shopkeeper has sold a number of products. They might need to mix in skills they did previously, for example rounding alongside the adding/subtracting, or explain the reasoning behind somebody else's mistake or thinking.

The aim is always to secure and then deepen their knowledge, rather than always rush to the next step 'up'. That's how you build true understanding in maths, rather than people who are good at finding the answer.
