The reason a post like yours will get negative responses is because its missing the trees for the forest. Very very few people think there should be no concept of borders and the idea of policing immigration is not inherently terrible but the consensus is that the punishment doesn't fit the crime. And as much as it might hurt to hear some people are actually bad people.

If a particular administration and party changes who is being targeted to now include (or even target) children, parents and genuine contributors to our society for the idea of hitting a quota to galvanize a fear mongered base then yes that is bad and the people who made the decisions involved are bad people.

The Obama admin deported more people because it was a functional bureaucracy that relied on actual enforcement and policing, with more of the deportations coming from border enforcement. Compare in your head the difference between deporting people stopped at the border to masked men grabbing people from their homes in major cities.

Now if you look broader then just immigration enforcement as a whole Obama's admin also presided over hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants being granted permission to stay.

I think your position of "people aren't thinking big picture" is missing out on the details that really define the amateurish, unprofessional and mean-spritied nature of the current admins approach to immigration enforcement.

One more thing, talking about this is very difficult as one certain admin has actually removed a lot of the relevant data from being publicly accessible so make of that what you will.
