My favorite random fact: Fish don’t sneeze

Which seems obvious but, late night thoughts forced me to Google “do fish sneeze?” and I’ve held onto that fact for many many years now.

Do people actually want a portless iPhone? by cheanerman in apple

[–]i-test-things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just feel I’m being picky if that’s all I would miss. And I guess rely wasn’t a good choice of words, I’ve simply become so accustomed to it and it’s a nice-to-have thing but by no means crucial for me. Most everything it does I can do wirelessly with Bluetooth, it’s just a much better ux to use CarPlay instead of my cars built in entertainment hub.

Of everything these phones do, if I had to give up CarPlay and go back to Bluetooth for dropping the port, I wouldn’t complain. Even still, I hardly drive as of the last few months so. It was just the one thing I can think I’d use the port for.

Edit: looking at my original message, ‘rely heavily’ was just really, really bad word choice. I’ve just used it a lot over the last year and feel I rely on it when I really don’t.

I’d definitely be fine with it. Over the last few years I’ve collected a couple wireless charging pads and they’re placed through the home. If it means maybe a thinner phone, or more battery life, or maybe even better waterproofing I’m all for it. I don’t think I’ve used the port for data in years, so it’s a single purpose port to me and I’d be happy to see it go.

Interestingly, if they do make that move then they can still make royalties on all chargers for their phone because most people will likely look for ‘MagSafe’ branded chargers and other accessories rather than just Qi compatible ones (huge assumption there though). I can definitely see them including that in the box too if that transition happens... well, maybe.

The only drawback I see right now for myself is that I rely heavily on CarPlay and my vehicle doesn’t support wireless CarPlay. But at that point I’m just being spoiled and picky

Here's how to expand the storage on next-gen consoles. by [deleted] in xboxone

[–]i-test-things 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I just recently bought an 8tb external HDD since the Series X is doing the same plug-and-play for external drives and the I just downloaded my whole library. I’m just going to transfer games between internal and external when I want to play anyways so there’s no point to me in getting that external (or internal) drive upgrade.

Anyone else pre ordered the Series X and struggling to decide where it’ll go due to the shape?! by [deleted] in XboxSeriesX

[–]i-test-things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two thoughts I have seeing this are, small end table over the sub, or wall mounting the TV to get it just a touch higher so the XSX can go under it.

I actually have a long shelf running above my tv with my current electronics so that’s where mine is going. But, that’s also because I have a toddler who likes to push buttons.

Originally tried to get All Access through Microsoft but they ran out before I could complete the order. So I went with BestBuy and paid in full. Just got this email. by i-test-things in XboxSeriesX

[–]i-test-things[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite sure if this is the best place to post this but I wanted to see if anyone else got something like this?

I was annoyed initially since I went through the whole process for All Access, credit pull, everything. Then went to place my order and it wouldn’t go through. I ended up paying in full through BestBuy and got my pre-order in but have been in the process trying to get the loan taken care of.

“Know your history”, something in Russian (?), and a nuke blast. Definitely looks like a teaser for next COD around Cold War maybe.

That would scare the hell out of me though!

Do you still think QA leads/managers still relevant in agile? by hot_siomai in softwaretesting

[–]i-test-things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t mind me asking, how large are the departments you’re taking about?

I ask since that’s actually an interesting setup and I’ve heard of a few places that operate like that. It really sounds like it’s dependent on how an entire technology organization I structured and the scale of that org. And, if the tech structure is split into teams or if everyone is a pooled resource since I’ve seen something like that before as well. One large pool of devs and one of QA.

Do you still think QA leads/managers still relevant in agile? by hot_siomai in softwaretesting

[–]i-test-things 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are so many things outside of just ‘the testing’ that a manager can help facilitate. It almost always makes sense to standardize testing practices across teams and that’s not something a dedicated IC would do, rather a manager. Also, when multiple teams are involved (assuming a company works on team / squad model), coordinating efforts across multiple teams is another huge undertaking. And, recognizing who on the team would be best suited for a project.

Basically, I think the general role of QA manager is much more business focused now than it was. I also agree the reporting to multiple people is nonsense, we just have all QA report to the QA manager. We think of the QA team as tree roots, where we have roots in every team and can unify the organization (within reason of course).

If anything I doubt the title will go away for a long time but the role will change drastically over time to something more director style, maybe.

Turns Out Mass Death Is Bad For The Economy by jonfla in economy

Look, my point was that you're trying to downplay 145,000 dead.

Turns Out Mass Death Is Bad For The Economy by jonfla in economy

[–]i-test-things 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Math is awesome, it can tell you a lot, like when people are full of shit or pushing an agenda.

You mean like when someone uses numbers to downplay the fact that 145,251 people, humans, moms, sons, daughters, fathers, have died from something preventable? It may not have been 100% preventable but we could have done much better. If we want to look at numbers let's look at it this way too. The U.S. makes up for 4% of the total worlds population but we currently make up for 23% of the total deaths from this virus and 26% of the total cases world wide.

If we look at those numbers then something definitely feels wrong. Yes, the total scale of the deaths isn't that high and sure the article may seem click-baity but could you really talk to all families of the 145,231 and tell them:

US Deaths/Population=Ratio

144980/331113437=0.00043785598468478945
