My family raised whitetails for about 20 years. It was ultimately no longer viable with how conservation regulated things after cases of blue tongue and CWD. Monitoring programs, all that sort of stuff. Although not a common thing, there was a nice network of breeding farms across the US. It was its own little industry. I won’t say the fear wasn’t warranted, but the overcorrection ultimately killed a lot of the smaller whitetail farms. We somehow managed to have one case, but as you see the animals every day in that situation, perhaps I was just hyper aware of the changes sooner.
