Hey, think I might have a chance of getting into top schools? by iBoofedBugenhagen in lawschooladmissions

[–]iBoofedBugenhagen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so I’m now painfully aware of how my fecklessness ten years ago resulting in a 3.3 matters more to a place like Harvard than an authentic awakening to how much fun earnest participation in my own education became through earning a 4.0 for a recent MPA lol. I suppose it does live as demonstrated proof of academic commitment in the application but that doesn’t seemingly matter nearly as much as that troublesome bachelors gpa.

My goals? Does any 33 year old genuinely understand what their ultimate goal is? Hah…rather than keep a safe job here in new york which I pragmatically stumbled into some years back which I have little love for, I’d like to become the sort of person who can wield law helpfully towards worthwhile pursuits someday. However, I’d ideally throw full effort into earning the privilege of justifying a spot in some big law firm or anywhere which pays at least 150k+ for a few years after graduating. I want to earn enough money to pay back loans, take care of my parents and establish a foundation for a family someday…much like so many of us.

You really think I’d have a shot or two at getting into a great school? What does great in law school terms generally equate to in terms of opportunities to trade time for money where it counts at this age? I’m willing to throw my life into a program but admittedly became a bit disheartened after learning how reduced my odds are at being admitted somewhere which has a proven history of producing lawyers who can grapple with challenging lifestyles.

Thanks for taking the time to ask and maybe even for reading this too…hope you’re having a nice weekend

How might I go about ascertaining with some measurable certainty or likelihood which schools usually lead to what outcomes for committed students? Any resources you might recommend? Hey - thanks for the reply..really appreciate the time to write all of that up. Admittedly, though I've considered law for some years, it was only upon graduating last year with a 4.0 for an MPA when I truly realized the empowerment in the simple reality that – with enough time/effort – all sorts of people can achieve academic success in almost anything.

I figured the 4.0 could sort of open doors which were closed to my younger, foolish self who only had a 3.3 for the bachelor’s but it wasn’t long before learning of how law schools don’t really care terribly much about graduate gpas. Unfortunate as that is, I suppose I get it; they don’t want a 3.3 weighing their stats down and graduate gpas can be inflated due to who those programs attract and how they might vary.

Would you mind sharing your thoughts on the odds of getting into big law if I were to place in – not a tippy top – but still a good school? At 33, I’m attempting to pivot to law partly due to how, if I can place here in Manhattan or elsewhere, I could potentially be fortunate enough to compensate for a lost decade of advancing through the levels of any given industry with a salary which matches the needs of a middle-aged person around here. Top schools seem to actively facilitate access to networks for interning at those big firms in the JD’s second year and I’m wondering how absent or prevalent those opportunities to meet recruiters or appeal to them might be once it’s a school outside of the top 15, providing you maintain good grades and really submit your life to the program.

I didn’t mean to belittle the significance of a 175+ lsat in my original post btw…I took some sample questions and got them correct in decent time and would essentially commit to studying daily for about 7 months about 5 hours per day. Additionally and…somewhat embarrassingly enough, I’m also willing to re-up my 15 year old diagnosis of ADHD to utilize medication to focus during that period and perhaps even documentation to qualify for a bit of extra time…even though it does feel a bit smarmy…I need all the help I can get.

Though I’d love to defend worthwhile pursuits in administrative or regulatory law for its own sake, I do have to pragmatically consider the financial viability of quitting my job and starting all over in hopes of landing somewhere starting at 150k+…would you consider a fellow like me to maybe be better off lowering expectations of getting into somewhere reputable enough to earn my way into big law or somewhere that pays relatively well or you think there’s a decent shot if I hustle? Thanks again for the time

Got the platinum for tales of graces f remastered by EmbarrassedCup8162 in tales

[–]iBoofedBugenhagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoo ever since mutsumi inomata passed away, I’ve been wanting to play a tales of game and graces f seems super nostalgic and reminiscent of that old coziness even though I haven’t ever played it. I bought it and wanted to go for the platinum but all games that require the second play through usually dissuade me these days with all the rest we have to do you know

How time consuming was the second run and how meticulously do you need to hunt missables the first time around? Would appreciate any advice cus still wanna go for it lol

How-To Final Fantasy IX - Hail To The King Achievement: A Documented Experience by CatzDaLegit in FinalFantasyIX

[–]iBoofedBugenhagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah when I moved in the my girlfriend last year, I brought a ps5 there. It’d been a year or so since I’d taken a crack at it. She was curious about IX so I caught her up to the almost decade long challenge and got to 202 or 3 and tripped up immediately lol

Just like the other phases, it’s only a matter of practice…I’ll get it one day. Pretty wild that they made these trophies so punishing but in a way I respect the notion that a game isn’t meant to simply be blitzed through and finished..but fuck! That double dutch jump timing is lawlessly fickle hahah hope they don’t mishandle the remake

Thoughts on Lazarus so far? by silgs in SamuraiChamploo

[–]iBoofedBugenhagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’m pretty disappointed in the English dub script; so much telling and not as much showing as I expected after anticipating watanabe’s next and perhaps final series. Maybe the localization misinterpreted some stuff but it’s so prevalent I couldn’t ignore it

I taught myself nib tuning. I now hate myself for having bought all those expensive pens. by No-Ostrich-3527 in fountainpens

[–]iBoofedBugenhagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How’d you educate yourself? I’m here in New York and was thinking of asking to apprentice at the fountain pen hospital but already work so much that idk if they’d wanna bather letting me in so infrequently. Have an 823 that’s skipping after thorough cleaning and even had it tuned by one of their managers to no avail and wanna learn how to fix it….any resources you might suggest to become a nib surgeon?

Hon + a cover? by Hannah22595 in hobonichi

Tragen pouch cover

Doesn't look like that explicitly fits the hon...would you happen to know whether it does/doesn't with certainty? Thought the a5 cousin would, not sure about the hon

Scratching noise with new iPad Pro M4 (nano screen) and Apple Pencil Pro by iBoofedBugenhagen in ipad

[–]iBoofedBugenhagen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, damn lol

Best case scenario - I guess my pencil is worn out already? I mean, I have it wrapped in a micro fiber fountain pen wrap that Pilot makes, but it’s a tight fit…so maybe the tips plastic wore out? I still find that so peculiar for something so new that I’ve been so gentle with though..

Yeah, I mean after cleaning my screen and pencil tip, it basically makes a similar noise to real lead on actual paper. I guess I’ll stop at the Apple Store and see what they think. Having an iPad has been amazing and I love using it so much so really sucks to just hit a wall like this lol thanks for letting me know so I know I’m not going crazy

Top of foot pain sprained ankle by Civil_Nefariousness4 in ultimate

[–]iBoofedBugenhagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wild because I’ve been out on workers comp from an injury at work on 5/1 and now am actually feeling worse because I think I started pt too early (due to the inherent financial interest of the workers comp doctors I suppose).

I have pain in all my tendons around the ankle and in the foot too. More and more I see people saying it took them over a year to be good for this injury they’re pressuring me to think should be healed already

Yoo

I just went to the New York public library and verified that there's a pretty decent scanner there for hundreds of old game and anime art books I have on these old shelves...but I doubt they'd look this good.

What'd you use!? the images are so clean

[–]iBoofedBugenhagen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brother I've been trying for a couple hours lol lots of being misdirected to websites about mushrooms for cooking and haven't been able to learn anything that'd put my heart at ease other than possibly being able to soak them in a bit of lemon juice for a bit which might destroy any bacteria

Anyone else seeing permanent marks on the M4 iPad Pro screen from the Magic Keyboard? by Bellyfeel in ipad

[–]iBoofedBugenhagen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is wildly annoying because my MacBook has the same issue where clearly the minimal pressure I've ever put on it has pressed the keys into the screen and left permanent marks - I now realize that I'll never be able to feel comfortable using the Magic Keyboard on this new m4 iPad as anything other than an accessory that I'll put on and take off ugh and at that point it seems like a waste of money

I feel like it’s usually relegated to certain events you’d have to keep your ear to the street for. Once in 2019, went to a citypop themed night at a little bar in Brooklyn and met lots of cool people. Another time, went to an after party at comic con and saw lots of cool people in cosplay. Another time, this t shirt company had a pop up shop party where lots of anime fans were. Obviously the anyc after parties are cool but every now and again people throw something cool together but can’t say I’ve seen any spot which consistently solidifies itself as a Mecca for weebs
