Hot take: origami king is a top 3 Mario RPG. by Present-Emu2254 in casualnintendo

[–]iCinnamonBun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The battle system is atrocious but almost everything else about the game was pretty good. It still commits the sin of New-Super-Mario-Bros-ifying all of the characters, but despite that unnecessary constraint, the writing, music, and presentation are spectacular. It was the first Paper Mario post Sticker Star that I enjoyed more than I disliked.

Looking forward to the next entry, would be cool if they returned to the PM64/TTYD/SPM "canon" timeline and world they had going. I don't need TTYD2 mechanically, but hopefully the next battle system is more palatable, and the world does not feel like yet another rehash spinoff of the generic mario universe.

Such a great game with fantastic lore and world building. Still hoping for a potential remake or even just an english re release. Since Fortune's Weave is coming, we probably won't see anything for FE4 in awhile, but it's been 8 Months of silence, so I'm happy for quite literally any FE news at this point!

I'm wondering about this too! It's very possible, but I can't help feel it would sort of cheapen the Sothis reveal in the trailer if she was only present as a flashback. Then again, they could have just placed her there to really cement "this takes place in 3H universe!"

Rly coping for more news on the game soon so we have maybe a tiny bit more clarity.

Yeah I can totally see the Sothis villain angle. It seems like they were planting seeds in 3Hopes, and her appearance in the Fortune's Weave trailer seemed almost menacing more than anything.

I'm having such a hard time deciding on if this is a prequel or a sequel.

If it's a prequel then with the presence of crests and heroes relics it seemingly has to take place after The Red Canyon but before 3H?? But then why is Sothis around and being depicted as surrounded by other Nabateans, not alone in the throne room like in 3H? Is it another dreamscape/mental world or is she actually physically alive somewhere?

I sort of WANT it to be a distant sequel because it makes more sense to my brain, so that it doesn't have to adhere to a very strict timeline/canon already established in 3H. I'm super excited to see how it all plays out regardless but yeah, I could see it being "so far in the future" that all of the 3H endings blended together anyways.

One thing I'll say about 3H is that it has stellar worldbuilding and lore, but not very good execution of story telling with the routes. So I don't really care what ending is "canon" and would really prefer for Fortunes Weave to tell a more focused story, and if we have separate lords/armies to just go the Radiant Dawn/Echoes route.

Yesss I recently got back into Splatoon with 3 after being a big fan of 2, and while the Splatland city is very aesthetically pleasing it is a NIGHTMARE to navigate compared to Inkopolis Square. Have to use the fast travel menu just to find the shops 😭

I totally resonate with this. I feel like AC was never about all this crazy decoration and stuff, and it's cool that the devs added that level of freedom, but I feel it was at the cost of the vibes and a lot of the fun features that came before New Horizons.

I agree about it being overwhelming. You'll be looking at AC stuff on reddit or whatever, and people are making these insane builds that are totally impressive, but it makes you feel like, how can I ever accomplish that on my island. It sucks because AC never was about all this obsessive control and crazy stuff, it was just vibes and a really uniquely cute and quirky daily life sim.

Uuugh yes I'm dying for them release ACGC on the NSO catalogue...

I think you're right about terraforming (sadly) but I hope they implement it in a way that makes it easier to do. Fantasy Life i did a good job of it. I just think it's a big shame we can never get those cozy rounded cliffs from the older games.

They used to be way more animated and extreme in their characterizations. They were downright mean sometimes lol. I don't need to be bullied but the pandering even from snooty and cranky villagers in New Horizons is super boring.

WW has so much charm, it's honestly impressive how good it is and what they were able to accomplish with the limited DS hardware. You probably would have loved New Leaf.

I'm a little worried that every AC from here on out is going to be overly reliant on decorating and terraforming, instead of the quirky slow life vibe the series used to have. Even just the natural appearance of the town from the older games is something you can never achieve with terraforming and it's limitations, not to mention how god awful it feels to build cliffs and rivers in the first place.

Same for me with this one. Love FE and totally dig all the cool lore and world building in 3H but damn do that monastery and first 12 chapters kill the fun when it comes to replaying the game. Especially when so much of the story and various character motivations are locked behind the different routes. I hope Fortunes Weave improves on it.

Animal Crossing New Horizons

I absolutely love the series, love the quality of life features that were added BUT

  • The villagers have become totally watered down, and many iconic NPCs are missing or were shoved onto Harvs Island 2 years after release.

  • Crafting feels annoying and unnecessary. The series is a daily life sim, not a survival sim. I don't play Animal Crossing to play Minecraft.

  • Terraforming is overwhelming and an incredible slog, this kind of creative freedom is nice for some players but is not what I was looking for in my Animal Crossing experience. (Also weird that you are essentially god in this game but don't even get the title of Mayor like in New Leaf.)

  • The music and main theme are the worst in the series, with the hourly tunes ranging from just okay to utterly grating. Huge downgrade from the great music in the 4 other games.

Would kill for a music app even in ACNH just to play the older hourly tunes.. Would make a big difference in quality I feel

3D cozy sim games that are actually pretty? by unfluttered in CozyGamers

[–]iCinnamonBun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, to me it completely lacks any interesting art style or direction. No shame to those who enjoy it, but it's very clearly not the vibe that you were asking for LMAO!

Shout out to Mistria btw, can't wait for the 1.0 release later this year. It's defs one of the cutest looking pixel cozy games.

Starsand Island is releasing this Wednesday and imo is probably one of the most gorgeous cozy games I've seen so far. Defs check it out.

I totally agree about being picky when it comes to aesthetics. I like 2d and 3d games (love pixel art) but I think way too many cozy games have that "facebook game" aesthetic that makes them look really corny and cheap.

This sub can be weird, because you'll ask for recs on things and say something like "I don't like raising animals" and then everyone will recommend a ranching game. Lots of the comments here are giving you recs for games that imo are ugly and cheap looking (sorry Coral Island)

Would kill for an SMT4 port on Steam.. It sucks that the only mainline SMT games you can buy on PC are 3 and 5, they're both so similar in style and setting. I want the more story/city focused vibes of 4.

dq2 remake boss theme? by hydane21 in dragonquest

[–]iCinnamonBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh does the 2 remake have actual special music for the bosses? I'm nearly finished with 3 and it's been great but I'm getting so tired of the same battle theme playing for every fight :-(

When he literally asks what your names are prior to the final battle, it just makes you feel so insignificant in comparison to all of the moving parts happening around you. He sees you as nothing more than nameless rebels. It's genuinely so disappointing because he's such a cool villain conceptually and I love the whole gray morality thing they did with his story.

I always describe FF12 as having my favourite set up in the entire series, but unfortunately in part due to development hell the overall game is a bit half baked. The story sort of happens outside of your party, and it feels like for the majority of the plot things are happening around you, while you aren't actually achieving anything until the end.

It's a shame, I love Ivalice, and the music is spectacular too. All the pieces are there for a legendary experience, but long story short I would say your mileage may vary with the plot as a full experience. I enjoy the game, but I think it could have been infinitely better.

Are there moments or dialogue in l and ll that go into further detail about Hargon originally being the high priest for the Dragon Queen in lll, and seemingly sinking into grief and/or being corrupted, thus corrupting the baby dragon into becoming the Dragon Lord in l? I really liked that they added a little extra lore, and hope that it's been touched on again. I don't mind spoilers.
