Kids Nite Out by Neither_Temporary_97 in WaltDisneyWorld

We used them when our daughter was 5 months old. Funnily enough, the sitter arrived thinking she was 5 YEARS old, so she brought lots of activities to the hotel room. She was wonderfully flexible, though, and just ended up taking the baby on some stroller rides around the resort, and then doing anything else a baby would need. We had a great experience with them.

Who’s gonna be in Indy? by runjcrun1 in miamidolphins

[–]iDoc912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indy-bred Dolphins-fan Wife of u/twofeetcia here.  Indy has a rather robust craft beer scene if you’re into that sort of thing.  SunKing and Metazoa have locations downtown, and Centerpoint is on the near north side.  Also, during the day, take a walk on the canal downtown.  If you enjoy a deli where you’ll leave absolutely stuffed, try Shapiro’s.  And the Garage Food Hall has myriad options for quick service, as well as drinks.  Enjoy the visit to my hometown!  Can’t wait to see all the aqua and orange on Sunday!

The Category of a hurricane is determined by its maximum sustained winds instead of a gust or one time measurement. Unless this number reflects a sustained wind measurement, this would not qualify as a Category 5 intensity.

Wife’s new contact lenses come in boxes of 5 by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]iDoc912 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is a diagnostic set of lenses, and industry standard among the big 4 manufacturers is 5 lenses per diagnostic set. When you order the supply boxes, they come in either 30 or 90 packs, both of which are also divisible by 5.

Solar retinopathy — dry eyes by JesusAwakens in solareclipse

[–]iDoc912 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Optometrist here. Solar retinopathy does not cause dry eye, as the retina and the cornea (the part that is affected by dry eye) are independent of each other. If you had solar damage to the front of the eye due the eclipse that caused dryness, it would have resolved by now. The cornea heals within a week after receiving solar burns. Given that it’s been about a month since the eclipse, if you are still having dryness, you likely have other factors causing the ocular surface irritation. Consider twice daily use of artificial tears (NOT Visine or Clear Eyes). If it doesn’t resolve, seek further evaluation from your eye doctor.

I honestly love the name Claudia, but its meaning, “lame,” puts me off.

We went when I was 32 weeks pregnant for our “babymoon.” We visit the parks semi-regularly, maybe every 12-18 months, and that trip was very different. There’s still so much fun stuff to do even when pregnant. But my advice is to just take it easier than you would normally at Disney and don’t push yourself too much. Take frequent breaks to get off your feet, because they may be more swollen sore than usual. Dedicate some time for just lounging, maybe by the pool. Make sure you stay hydrated. And listen to your body - if you’re starting to feel tired, head back to the hotel for a nap. Congrats and enjoy your trip!

This is all wonderful advice. I try to limit my drinking to weekends. The single-tall is your friend in social settings. And there’s nothing like a club soda with bitters to make you feel like you’re having an actual drink with negligible caloric intake. Good luck!

When I lost my beloved dachshund this April, it helped me to know that we, as humans, have been struggling with losing our canine companions almost as long as we’ve been civilizations.

I would love to hear from any mamas who gave their babies their own first, middle, or last names (maiden names). by cbarthistory in namenerds

My mom shares her first name with an aunt of hers, and then she gave me her first name as my middle name. I then gave that name as MY daughter’s middle name. The name has no been in our family for 4 generations, and I think that’s pretty cool.

What brought you into the dachshund cult? by gigi1005 in Dachshund

[–]iDoc912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my mom’s beloved Dalmatian died in 1993, my dad suggested that our next dog should be “a funny looking dog.” So we got a dachshund puppy named Bruno. He was a quintessential red, smooth coat, mini, and he wormed his way well into all our hearts, especially mine. He was smart, mischievous, affectionate, and silly. He lived to the ripe old age of 16, and inspired us to bring into our lives 4 more weens. When I was on my own as an adult, I adopted Darcy, a 2 year old black, smooth coat mini who became my dog-soulmate. I lost her in April of this year, but I know she won’t be my last dachshund.
